Kevin Kolb Is Still Getting Comfortable In Arizona

I was checking out Cardinals new starting quarterback, Kevin Kolb, a couple of days ago on NFL Network and he wasn’t lighting up the sky. Kolb was having as much trouble with the Green Bay Packers defense as he did a year ago at the beginning of the season. He missed Larry Fitzgerald a couple of times. I saw him get sacked while holding onto the ball for about five seconds.

In two preseason games, he’s yet to lead the Cards to a touchdown. Kolb seems to be trying to solidify his confidence, but he’s yet to put together a strong performance.

“It seems like we’ve done everything to get down there. We just haven’t plugged it in yet,” he said about not having led the Cards to a touchdown yet. “But (Friday) was leaps and bounds better than the time before – in the huddle, calling the play, working the cadence the way we did.”

Wisely, Kolb has been doing everything he can to develop a close relationship with Fitzgerald. “We see the picture the same way,” Kolb said. “We both work hard. We both know what it takes to win. We know we need every single person in the locker room to contribute.”

Everybody is holding their breath out in Arizona. Ken Whisenhunt and his staff know that Kolb is holding their future in his hands. If he fails, they’re going to be looking for a job very soon and all the teams in the league will refuse to ever do a deal with Andy Reid for a quarterback.

Kolb doesn’t have to start the season on fire. He’s not going to be playing under the heat that he would experience here in Philadelphia and he’s got the entire season to do his thing, plus Fitzgerald has got his back. “You want to have that good continuity between the quarterback and receiver, that takes time, takes repetition,” Fitzgerald said on a radio show yesterday. “It takes a while to have that good repoire and I think the more we throw every single day the more comfortable he’ll become with me, the more comfortable I’ll become with him.”

“Signing Kevin, I knew that the organization was doing everything it could to make us be in contention again and make a playoff push like we did two years ago with Kurt, and I know with the signings of Stewart Bradley and [Daryn Colledge] and guys like that, the team is really making that conscious effort to make sure we are fighting and scratching for the NFC West championship, and I think we have a great opportunity to win it.”

Kolb is going to benefit greatly from having not only Fitzgerald as a target, but he’s also going to have former Ravens Pro Bowl tight end Todd Heap to work with. “Obviously, we’re both young in this offense, and we’re both learning quickly,” Heap said. “But to see his progression in such a short period of time … he looks like he can be a really good quarterback in this league.”

The former Eagles second round draft pick will probably be benefited most by the weak NFC division in which the Cardinals play.

To whomever… it’s spelled “rapport,” not “repoire.”

As with McNabb, I hope Kolb does well as long as it does not hurt the Eagles.

But I would like an Update, or a date period on our #1 draft pick. You would think that the LB Matthews was our #1 draft pick with all the ink he gets.

BSM- well i read in some article how we arent hearing anything at all about Watkins- and in the case of all O-Linemen, thats probably a good thing.

Kolb will have growing pains. New offense and new team. I don’t care how bright the guy is that’s a lot for anyone especially with the lockout not giving him a lot of time. In time we’ll see whether he is a career starter or a serviceable backup. Good thing for him, the NFC West is garbage. I’m surprised to say it but the Rams will probably be the biggest comp there because San Fran seems like they will never get it together. Always that team that everyone thinks is 1 season away from being contenders then they go out and win 7 games the next year.

I hope Spongebob arm does alright out there in AZ….as long as it’s not against us.

Anyone know if AZ and MINN play each other this year? That’s a game I definitely would like to see.

Haha songs, can’t let Kolb go without a shot, he still gets under your crawl, for what, let it go man, worry about the eagles, we have plenty to worry about here, including the play of our quarterback, the coaches, Reid, the passaholic, and Castillo, the jv cheerleader coach

Heheh, I’ve got to go with SONGS on this one. This headline should read “Kevin Kolb is still getting comfortable in the NFL” (in general). Like I said this time last year, he is strictly and might always be a “developing” quarterback, regardless of which system he is in. Don’t get me wrong, I’m 100% focused on my current Eagles (and our shortcomings) right now, but considering one of my favorite sites is still posting articles about KK… I can’t help but be reminded of our “Kolb Era”, our “Young Gunz are takin’ ova in Philly” era, our “We’re not rebuilding, we’re making a run” era. (all direct quotes from the mouths of our players when Kolb first “took over”). Personally, I’m ecstatic to be out of that phase, and i’ll watch a returning MVP candidate throw 3 picks in preseason any day to avoid it. Regardless of our debotchery against the Steelers. We are in a FAR better place 1 year later. Oh yeah, the point of my rant…… Like McNabb, i genuinely wish Kolb the best of luck as long as he isn’t in our way. Hope to see some serious “?’s” answered tonight against the Browns.

Lets see how Kolb plays when he plays the Eagles. I think we will blow them out
and he will be in for a long day during that game. The Birds defense will be waiting for him and the secondary will definitely be ready to get a few interceptions as well. Can’t wait for Kolb to play us. They will be calling him Korn on the Kolb and puts some butter on him (Sack Time) during the game!!!!!
