DMac & Birds, Super Bowl Or Bust

It’s Super Bowl title or bust for Donovan McNabb and the Eagles in the next two years.  It’s just that simple.

If they capture a Super Bowl title McNabb will likely be given an extension offer from the Birds which will encompass the rest of his days in the NFL.

If they don’t win a Super Bowl in the next two years, then McNabb will be shown the door and the era of Kevin Kolb or another young quarterback will begin for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Who knows it could also mean the end of the Andy Reid era here in Philadelphia?

Two years and winning the Super Bowl came up again and again when Donovan McNabb and his head coach Andy Reid spoke to the media on Friday morning.

When asked about the reason for focusing on restructuring the remaining two years of his contract McNabb responded, “I looked at it as the situation that these two years are very important. With the type of thing that we have, I think it’s important that we focused in on what we have to do in order to achieve that common goal, and that’s obviously to win a Super Bowl.”

There was no talk of anything past the next two years.  Reid said it was because of the uncertainty of the league’s collective bargaining agreement with the NFL Players Association.

“We didn’t even go there, said Reid. This is something that both sides felt we needed to get done now. Like I said, the landscape of the NFL right now is a little uneasy on what’s going to take place in the future. We’ll cross that bridge when it happens. Right now, both sides feel very good about this, and that’s the important thing.”

McNabb told us what he thought was the reason for not doing a contract extension. “I looked at it in the sense that it’s in these two years, our focus is to win the Super Bowl and anything past that it will take care of itself,” McNabb said emphatically.  “At this particular point, in these two years, we feel like we can get the job done.”

Head coach Andy Reid cosigned everything by expressing his confidence in McNabb.  “I think we have the best quarterback in the National Football League. I’ve said that many times. I’m very partial to Donovan on that and respect him for the things that he’s done. That’s the important part.”

If they don’t get it done, the Eagles will tell McNabb, “You ain’t got to go home, but you've got to  ……. out of here”.
