According to ProfootballTalk.com, Eagles rookie running back LeSean McCoy got $1.72 million in guaranteed money in a four-year deal worth $3.47 million.
He received a bonus of $1.37 million.
His contract was a 10% increase over what the guy who was drafted in the 53rd spot in the draft a year ago.
In his first year, he has an incentive clause that will pay him a $357,000 bonus if he plays in 35% of the offense's plays. He will get additional monies, if he plays 10% more.
Bottomline, if the starter at the position Brian Westbrook gets hurt then Shady McCoy will get a lot of playing time and rightfully so, be paid for it. That's fair.
It was very important that he get signed before training camp and be there learning on every day possible. He did not need to miss any time because the Eagles running back position is very demanding from a mental perspective.
McCoy is going to have learn all of the ins and outs of running the ball, running pass routes out of the backfield, running pass routes after lining up as a wide receiver and picking up the blitz.
The young man has his work cut out for him.
