Eagles Need To Get Tapp & Parker Back In The “D” Line Rotation

The Eagles defensive line desperately needs to get defensive ends Darryl Tapp and Juqua Parker back in the lineup. These guys didn’t start in the first game of the season, but they were involved in the game which turned the game around.

Tapp hit Rams quarterback Sam Bradford and Parker picked up the fumble and ran it back for a touchdown. It was the biggest play in that game.

Neither has played a great deal since that game and I think that has something to do with why the Eagles have lost both of those games. Their defensive line is still racking up sacks, but they’re also running out of gas at the end of games and the pass rush is falling off.

Trent Cole, Jason Babin and Cullen Jenkins each have at least three sacks, but they need to be able to stay fresh for the end of the game.

Parker, who has a high ankle sprain missed practice again yesterday but Tapp, who strained a pectoral muscle against the Rams did practice with the football team in the Wednesday workout.

“There’s a chance, but no guarantee,” Tapp said to Philly.com, when asked about playing on Sunday. “Take it day-by-day, keep doing treatment, see how it works out.”

Tapp knows the fellas need him in the worst way.

“We’ve got an exciting defense. We’ve had problems, just sitting out on the sideline, we’ve had problems that have got to get cleaned up . . . They need Juqua and myself in that rotation,” Tapp said. “That’s something we practiced all training camp. It kind of hurt us when I went down; it hurt us even more when Juqua went down the following week.”

I agree 100% G
Tapp is very effective as a rotational DL and can play end or even rush from the DT spot on ocassion even if it’s for 15-20 plays a game and brings energy and flys around the ball whenever he plays, and the Eagles have missed his play the last 2 weeks where the Starters (Cole and Babin in particular) really faded out in the 4th Quarter.. Dixon is another player who needs better conditioning to finish games strong..

In my opinion they need to bliz more Juan C. is a horrble Def.C. How could you let Eli stay up right? That loser needs constant pressure; He needs to look at some of Jim Johnsons old tapes and call the same exact bliz packages the guys a halfwit. WHEN I LOOK AT HIS PRESS CONFERENCES IT MAKES MY SKIN ITCH.

G,
I agree 100%, but can they play LB, or Safety!? If not, it doesn’t matter! This DF will still be horrid! They don’t have the personnel, to get the job done.

Over- under starts at 130 yards for Gore. Any takers!? I put $100, on the over. Prediction- 150yds+ with 2 td’s.

Cowboys ILB Sean Lee named Defensive PLAyer of the Month for September, remember the Eagles traded their 2nd Round pick in 2010 to the Cowboys who scooped him up…. Now fast forward to 2011 and the Eagles have the worst LB corp in the NFL… Another Drafting Strategy diasater by this Front Office
It goes back to moving up and trading 2 3rd Round picks to Denver in 2010 to get to #13 to Select DE Brandon Graham, by soing this the Eagles felt compelled to trade a 2nd Round to Rival COwboy to get a 3rd Rounder pick back which tuened into De Teo Neisham…. What a disaster the 2010 Draft has turned out to be.. The Eagles went in with 5 Selections in the 1st 3 Rounds and should have stood pat and come out with 3-4 good players. iIntead they ended up with Brandon Graham, Nate Allen and Teo Neisham.. My Doggie can select better talent at need positions than the Professionals who work for the Eagles (Roseman/Reid and Scoutng Dept) It will take this Franchise 2-3 more Drafts to make up for the misses in the 2010 Draft which actually has yielded some very good players, unfortunately they play for other teams.. (Center Pouncey for Steelers, CB McCourtey for Patriots, OT B Bulaga for the Packers, OT R Saffold for the Rams, LB Lee for the Cowboys which any of these players could have been Eagles if they played their cards right and stop trading up and down and trying to outsmart everyone, pick th ebest players at position of need.. it’s not that complicated)

As a whole this team has yet to come together and hopefully are on their way. It seems when they’re leader goes down they don’t rise up. The defense just collapses and lets the other team drive and score! I wonder about the moral and attitude of locker room, Jackson disgruntled with contract, Juan as the dc, leader of defense and how those guys truly view it! We did miss on a lot of players high in the draft, that really hurts and we can see it on the field!

The last thing we need is more blitzing. We should be getting pressure from the front four, and not putting our safeties or LB’s in one on one beat me and score positions. Blitzes cost us 14 points on Sunday, just sayin’.

Does anybody know whatever happen to Phil Savage? It was said last year he was hired to help Roseman, I guess they felt they didnt need him, hows that looking now? Anybody at this point would be a help in that draft room.

paulman

September 29, 2011 2:51 pm

Savage did have a 2 year Contract and worked with the Eagles in 2010 but was released after last Season after only 1 year of Service. I was never able to find out why and whether it was on his own or that Roseman wanted him out of the picture (which is what I suspect) I am not sure who he is working for but has a good eye for talent..
Roseman, though I like his agressiveness, I don’t believe he has preoven himself as a tvery good Talent Evaluator thus far.. Both the 2010 & 2011 I thought were missed opportunities with all the Draft picks they had and I don’t understand where in 2010 they had 10/11 opicks goign in and then another 11/12 picks in 2011.. Out of these 21-23 picks, I find it hard to believe that the Eagles could not acquired 6-8 solid players at the positions of need like the OL/DL/LB/CB & S Positions and if it wasn;t for the Free-agency shopping spree this off-season and you take Asmo/Jenkins/Babin off this team, then the Defense is like a College team, which is inescusable… Take Free-agent pick-ups Mathis and Devan off the OL and VIck would probably already be lost to major injury for the Season…

I look at 2010 where Teo, Lindley, Clayton, Harbor,Sapp were not NFL Players in my opinion and Kafka,Cooper,Chaney.Coleman are back-up players and Graham is nothing more that a rotational player and Allen does have potential Starter ability buy needs to get stronger and better tackling technique

It’s way too early but when I look at the 2011 Class , I question whether Jarrett, Marsh,Vandevelde,Matthews, Lloyd will ever be NFL Players.. ( I think Watkins,Kelce,Lewis and Rolle can be productive NFL Players but not studs by any stretch..)

Schiller-OK let’s find a representative sample to see whether offensive line coaches converted to defensive coordinators succeedin their first year. Let’s find a representative sample of gards drafted number one who have very little football experience and are 26 years old to see how they fared. Let’s find a representative sample of NFL teams that budget the same amount as the Eagles for linebackers to see if they have a good linebacker corps.
It’s probably very difficult if not impossible because the Eagles are such innovators in these areas.

Do you really have a voice in your head that says to you – If I just spew everything is completely wrong with the eagles they will get better? Navy, been there, done that.

We are not going for it anymore. Since we know this team can and will not win it all again…we’re focusing on the areas in which we can improve to win it all beyond this year. Got it?

Dick Jauron was here as insurance for an inexperienced Mcdermott.. yet we hire the damn offensive line coach?

WE’RE FREAKIN TIRED OF IT!

NO MORE BLIND SUPPORT!

Decades of futile fandom…After years of watchng our team come up short we have now shifted to “SHOW ME” mode.

NO MORE GROUNDHOG DAY!

We are close and with the right coaching Eagles fans can finally get what we’ve been waiting for and have followed, and supported Reid long enough to know he’s flawed, and is in the way of his own legacy.

When we have a defensive coordinator that knows defense and is not just happy to be working….

When we have a safety that makes Quarterbacks think twice about testing him……

When we have a linebacker that dare a running back to come in his zone….

When we’re not biting our nails on every “3 and short”…..

When Andy stop wasting top talent at the running back position…..

Then we’ll be on board like we were in 2004 The year the Eagles actually listened, got the player we all knew we needed, that resulted in a Superbowl appearance.

So Hell NAW.

We will not just feel good and support the team.

It’s time the team support the fans!

Another thing….

A real defensive coordinator brings his Philosophy along with his own coaches.

What the hell are we doing with a coordinator who must fit his concept with Washburn’s Wide 9?

If anything Washburn had more pedigree to be defensive coordinator..At least he would know what’s needed to make his concept work behind the defensive line, and would have been accountable if things didn’t work.

There’s too many areas to pass the blame, so the old adage of when there’s too many leaders, there’s really none..applies.

So let’s make this clear….Washburn’s defensive line gets sacks…So he’s successful..Right?

But since the pressure falls on linebackers and safeties…teams exploit the weaknesses which results in losses.

So Washburn is success have translated into team losses.

This was a recipe for disaster from the beginnng.

A Coordinator must bring a concept and pick his guys to accomplish the goals of the scheme.

The Eagles were banking on scoring 35 points a game on offense to allow the defense to find a concept and eventually take form.

That’s like counting chickens before the eggs hatch.

How many games in the past have our offense struggled, yet the defense kept us in it with an opportunity to strike?

Many.

So, thinking our offense would be this juggernaut to cover an offensive line coach over a new defense, with new coaches, and new players was stupid thinking….And out right offensive to the offensive minds of today’s NFL.

Teams will make sure Juan don’t succeed because it sends the wrong message through the normal coaching ranks.

Reid pompousness is saying….His offense is so good..he can put a failed offensive line coach as defensive chief, against Elite NFL offenses and win.

This may have been the one decision Reid might not recover from.

He escaped with the Mcnabb trade.

Vick saved him when it was clear Kolb as a starter would expose him.

But, even the great Houdini created a trick from which he could not escape.

Reid’s trick is Juan Castillo.

Songs – please, pretty please, I implore you please – What is your playing and coaching background. I know it has to be nothing ZERO, nada nil, I know it because I see just how stupid your posts are – really – do you read anything, look at anything , know anything about the NFL – McNabb has been a turd since he left – Kolb is doing OK for himself in AZ – where di Ried get te concept of score 35 points a game – I don’t know, maybe that whole Saints Colts SB – what are the patriots doing right now – oh…… that would betrying to outscore other teams – 3 games into the season and its a disaster – you are the orignal fair weather fan – ground hog day of what – let’s win 10 games, win the division and go to the playoffs – you do realize, I mean I am giving you credit here – you actually have to win the division the get a home field playoff game and possibly a bye – you do realize that – you do realize that in 2010 we started at 2-2 and won the division in 09 we started 3-2 and won 11 games in 08 we started 2-3 and won the division and in 06 we were actually 4-4 and won the division. in 05 we started 4-2 and tanked….

So if this is ground hog day brother – you are expecting the Eagles to right the ship and win the division and make the playoffs –

outstanding – glad we are onboard the same GO EAGLES train..

And lets hope by the time the eagles arrive in the playoffs in Dec/Jan we will have worked out all the issue on D and be ready to rock – or, better yet, we can sit around bitching, whining, complaining, calling everyone ass, being bitter and just waiting for the fail we all know will come…..

whihc side you chose to be on says a lot about you as a person – I would much rather be on my side of the fence –

I cheered my ass off for Navy – rationally, I knew they had no chance going into SC to play the ‘cocks’ but dam they scared the hell out of them – see I was on the field in 1985 when then #2 SC rolled into Mavy Marine Corp Memorial in Annapolis – didn’t play a lick, didn’t play a down – but we beat those bastards – unbeaten and #2 in the nation – its called being a FAN – and Navy is ground hog day baby – Triple option, all day every day –

yes, songs – ground hog day – every day, the day after, songs comes out and tells us all the fails and had we just done it his way…. it all would have worked out –

Get em Songs. Paulman you have some valid points referring to all of the draft day blunders. I do not understand why it is so hard to pick the best player available at a position of need. Draft best player on the board in the middle rounds…but the first 2 rounds should be players of need. Also if we trade up and down lets actually try something different and trade alot of our picks to get two 1st rounders and 2 nd rounders and dont worry 4-8th round. Get 4-5 guys in the first 3 rnd!!!!!

Rosman is good with money as is Banner there is no denying that. But please keep them away from our draft board. If we lose to San Fran which I doubt we will its time to chant for Fisher!

Songs – I know for one Jim Washburn said he did (but that’s of course not what you’re asking) – MANY, MOST if not all of the analysists/ whoever ranks players going into the draft. It was the general statement by most at the time. And when they drafted him, the immediate response by most reporters/experts (whatever you may call those guys) was ‘Eagles traded up and got the best DE – should work out great’. You don’t remember that?

And to your second question – Draft picks approximately 95% of the time take time to produce and at a quality level in their rookie year. There is an adjustment from the NCAA to the NFL. When a rookie comes out – regardless of when he is drafted – and performs at a high level from day one, it is viewed as an EXCEPTION, not the norm or what is expected. WHY DONT YOU KNOW THIS. THIS IS A FACT THAT CAN BE LEARNED BY SIMPLY OBSERVING WHAT HAPPENS ON EARTH, MORE SPECIFICALLY IN AMERICA. YEAR AFTER YEAR AFTER YEAR AFTER YEAR AFTER YEAR AFTER YEAR AFTER….ah, nevermind, you’re stuck in your own unreasonable expactations that are FAR from reality.

Songs – here ya go – a little 2010 post draft snippet – now another question Mr I never let a fact get in the way of an opinion – you wrote ‘why couldn’t he crack the starting lineup before his injury’ When the official stats for the NFl clealry state that Graham started 6 of 13 games his rookie year –

Derrick Morgan 2010 1st round pick for Tenn has played in 6 games in two years and has 12 tackles ZERO starts – And Graham started more games then Pierre PAul (again ZERO) – but now Pierre Paul is better becuase Graham tore his knee up last year so well, nothing to compare him too – and GRaham started more games then Dan Williams (who started ZERO) from the Cardinals… so where is thismagical standard you hold our draft picks up to – they have to start, they have to play – IMPACT – what the hell does any of it mean other then you have no clue what you are talking about……… Babin was a huge draft bust – now he is a pro bowler………

so again – what is your standard for your constant negativity? What did Graham have to do his Rookie year for you to constantly stop breaking the guys balls? He started half his games?

post draft snippet

Philadelphia surprised a lot of people by picking Graham here. It traded up 11 spots in the first round to get him, and Graham didn’t even know the Eagles were targeting him.

Philadelphia, though, did need help in their pass-rush, and that is exactly how Brandon Graham made a name for himself in college. I see him stepping in right away and providing a great rush opposite Pro-Bowl right end Trent Cole.
