Training Camp notes 8/1

I spent most of yesterday and today up at Lehigh at Eagles training camp and thought I'd pass along my notes.  These are just random thoughts about what I saw.

-First, some non-Eagles comments.  I overheard one national writer telling another media member that they just came up from Redskins came and that it was "absolutely dead."  C'mon Redskins fans, show some support for your team.  It's the first few days of camp, shouldn't you be excited?

-After checking out Buffalo's training camp, the same writer said that all they care about up there is T.O.  Nothing else, they are just consumed with Owens.

-Back to the Eagles.  McNabb is extremely loose and energetic.  He's bouncing off the walls (if there were walls to bounce off of) and seems as happy and excited as someone who was just awarded an extra $5 million over a couple seasons.  He came up behind one kid and grabbed his back in a playful way and let out a big noise.  Scared the bejesus out of the kid but he was laughing his butt off after a couple seconds.  Of course, Donovan was giggling too and having a great time.

-Not surprisingly, Kevin Curtis is not full speed.  He needs to just relax and get healthy.

-LeSean McCoy is faster than I thought he'd be.  He looks like he could be a problem once he gets his momentum going.

-I thought it was funny that the offense was practicing "icing" the game this morning.  There was no defense, they were just working on some plays as though they had the ball late with a lead.  After Marty shouted and repeated that they were "icing" the game, the next play was a 30-yard toss to Hank Baskett.  I thought that was pretty funny.  Ball control?

-There is very little sound when Cornelius Ingram catches the ball (go ahead, G. Make a joke.  If you watched today's internet video from Starter's pub, you know what I'm talking about).  This is a very good thing.  If it makes a loud noise when a guy catches a pass, it means his hands aren't very good.  You want big, strong hands to absorb that ball like a suction cup.

-I think Ingram could have the biggest impact of any rookie.

-NFL cornerbacks:  Good luck trying to cover DeSean Jackson this year.  The only Eagle I saw stay with him was Sheldon Brown (more on that in a bit).  You better be a very good player to try to cover him by yourself.  He is so smooth in his routes and his cuts are beautiful to watch.  He caught several deep balls for TD's today and the crowd was cheering as though it was November.  He'll get the biggest test of his young career this year against Nnamdi Asomugha from Oakland.  Champ Bailey might be a problem too.

-The one-on-one battles between DeSean and Sheldon made my day.  Awesome to watch.  I have to say Sheldon won.  He is extremely entertaining to watch.  He just looked heads and above the other corners this morning (Samuel didn't practice).

-Reggie Brown made a terrific cut in one-on-one's, but overall didn't have a good morning.  Some dropped passes and a fumble.
