Notes From This Tuesday Morning – 8/4/09

The Eagles defense started the day working their man to man coverages against shifts and motions in short yardage and on the goalline.  They were making sure new starting middle linebacker Joe Mays was on the same page as his defensive teammates.

Sean Jones showed that he will nail a running back if he gets the chance.  He put a good hit on LeSean McCoy in the goalline drill earlier today.

Jones also showed me his experience by recognizing a pass pattern and jumping tight end Cornelius Ingram who slipped when trying to come back inside after Kevin Curtis had cleared the area.

Donovan McNabb hit a speeding Curtis downfield on a seventy yard bomb and Kevin pulled in the ball as the defender slipped to the ground.

On another long pass play, Quintin Mikell got a finger on the ball to prevent a McNabb to DeSean Jackson hook up.

Eldra Buckley is playing well enough to make this football team.  He's running good sharp routes and catching everything thrown his way.

On two consecutive nickel offense plays Ingram showed why he's going to be a tough matchiup for opposing defenses.  On the first play he ran a ten yard out and snatched the McNabb pass out of the air like it was a nerf football.

On the second play he put a nice move on the linebacker and left him falling to the ground but the Kevin Kolb throw was too low to be caught.

Winston Justice and Max Jean-Gilles got into a fight with a couple of defensive players.

I think Justice is trying to let the Eagles know that he wants to play desperately.  He's been much more aggressive this year as compared to his first few seasons.  This could be his last chance here in Philadelphia.

Brandon Gibson continues impressing the offensive coaches.   He's the classic west coast offense receiver.  He has good size and great hands. The youngster runs crisp routes and is willing to take a punishing hit if it means catching the football.
