The Philadelphia Eagles have lost out on defensive end Derrick Burgess. The Patriots offered a third- and a fifth-round pick ot the Raiders and they went for it.
According to Adam Schefter via his Twitter page, the Eagles were offering a third rounder and a player.
"The two teams in on Burgess all along were the Eagles and Pats. Eagles were offering a 3rd-round pick and a player. Pats offer trumped it," Schefter tweeted.
Would love to know who the player was. It obviously wasn't anyone better than a fifth-round pick. Could it have been Reggie Brown or another wide receiver? The Eagles have plenty of those and the Raiders could use a decent WR, especially considering that so far Darrius Heyward-Bey can't catch.
But the Eagles certainly could have used Burgess' pass rush ability. Now it looks like they will have to work with what they have.
