I think the Eagles are making a good move by putting Kurt Coleman and Nate Allen in the starting lineup as their safeties. I know rookie Jaiquawn Jarrett is being given some reps also but I like the idea of Coleman and Allen being the starters. Jarrett isn’t quite ready just yet.
They both have decent speed with Allen being the faster and better pass coverage guy of the two. I don’t think there’s any question that they are the best pair of safeties which the Eagles have at the moment. These two must do a good job of communicating and anticipating motions plays they will see.
They should sit and look at tape together after practice and get on the same page against every formation and play they see.
Coleman seems to have a good feel for the game and seems to understand the coverages. He did miss that tackle against the Giants, but he plays hard and looks prepared during the games.
Allen needs to take another step and start jumping routes. I can tell from the tape of the game, that he’s starting to see the plays and routes develop. If he plays confident and believes what he sees, he’ll get the chance for some interceptions if he continues to study the formations and the routes.
Allen looked a little better last week than he did previous weeks. Hopefully he keeps progressing as he continues to get over the injury as well as play more.

mr Cobb – any chance you could expound on Jarret and why he isn’t quite ready and when/if you think he will be – I have never seen him play, heard good things about him from Temple and the knowck seems to be the eagles too him too early – wasn’t he supposed to be a solid tackler?

songs – I disagree both Allen and Graham were having decent – typical Rookie years for 1st and 2nd round picks – Allen had a horrible game against the Titans I think – Hicks…….. and everything on the year got tainted by that – nothing worse then what Plexico Burress used to do to Sheldon Brown… but a terrible game – the big knock on Grahan was he couldn’t displace Parker as a starter full time – but those 10 year vets – they don’t get to be 10 year vets without learning some tricks – and Allen did play better last weekend whihc was the point scorp was making – don’ know how GRaham got dropped in on that
Allen and Coleman should be the Starters and Allen does look a lot better and I think will be even better as he gets that knee 100% and gains more coinfidence..
Jarrett is a player for 2012 at the earliest, Word is that he has had a heck of time picking up this Defense (Scheme and Reposonsibility wise) and he’s only about 5-101/2″ and maybe 195lbs and needs another 15 lbs of strength… Again I go back to the Draft and how Jarrett was Selected in mid 2nd Round is beyond me, but that’s water under the bridge at this point. He will use this year as a learning process and to get bigger and stronger as all Rookies do, and compete for playing time next Season.. (you really want more productions and upside from a 2nd Round Pick and the #55 Overall Selection)
Jarrett’s other issue is hes pure lack of Speed and will have a tough time in pass coverages.. He’s a lot like Coleman if you think about it but not as big or strong in his development.. and in todays NFL at Safety, you have to have that combination of Size, Speed and a Physical Style of play which is a rare combination and why you see many young Safetie struggle at the NFL Level
Allen has the most upside of any safety on this Roster but I still see no one close to any type of All-Pro play or ability on this EAgles Roster though they have invested 2 2nd Round Picks (Allen & Jarrett) and a 6th Round pick with Coleman..
Correction Navy, that was Titans WR Kenny Britt that ate up Hobbs and Allen and D/Coordinator McDermott did nothing different to stop it ro to chance defenses if my memory serves me well..
Better option woulda been Earl Thomas. Wait, he is in Seattle, because they drafted that undersized stiff Graham.
Songs, I didn’t say he looked great. Just said that he looked better than he did before last week. That’s not saying that he wasn’t struggling before the injury. Just saying he looked a little better than he did the previous weeks. That’s all bro.

navy, I agree but I don’t think hitting and tackling is the issue. Just actually knowing how to play the position is his problem. It’s one thing to just run down the field with one goal in mind and it’s clear who has the ball. But it’s another to have to sit back there and read the QB and WR routes and be in the right position. You can hit and tackle all you want but if you can’t play offensive teams will make you look silly out there running around out of position all day. Look at Roy Williams….. could run through a brick wall but can’t cover anything. It’s very frustrating to see a guy that can tackle and hit not know how to play and them the guy that does know how to play can’t tackle or hit. Frustrating stuff!

Hmm… there is a report out from shefter that the eagles have offered the broncos a 3rd round pick for Dawkins and LB Dj Williams. I would not mind if there were able to pull that off and bring back a HOF safety whos better than all of the ones on our roster lol and DJ williams is better than all of our LBs… lets see if the broncos are as dumb as i think they are…

The Problem with DJ Williams is his DWI’s and off the field issues, the Eagles will not pursue him as far as I been told and don’t blame them.. He’s a good player but not the type the Eagles bring into thier Organization…
Maybe they can get MLB J Mays back who is better than any of the 6 LB’s are on the Eagles Active Squad..

Listen to some of the Interviews and Assesments and Player Analysis from 4-5-6 weeks as the Season was approaching from various Coaches,Jarrett himself and analysts like Caplan, Wulf, Spadaro and others on the Eagles.com Site when breaking down the roster and going over the players by position, and going over their strengths and weaknesses and 3-4 of all stated that Jarrett had a ways to go in learning this system and was working hard on learning it,etc,etc.. The Lockout really hurt Rookies and 2nd year players the most and it shows across the NFl where many young players and even veteran players on new Teams have struggled picking up their new teams schemes,plays,etc,etc which is one reason that we see a lot of high scores this season.. Defense Units are not made by 1 or 2 or 3 ggod players, it takes 11 players playing as a unit, in tandem to what each others responsibilities are based on the given scheme,formations and coverages and this is another reason the Eagles have struggled so much. . and should have been anticipated much better than the Eagles staff has shown so far

Allen has struggled ever since his injury and will probably never be the same….Coleman is a special teams player forced into starting due to the lack of talent… .they are not bad players, not nothing special… this defense needs better safeties to thrive!
Jarrett sucks….sucks sucks… he is NOT and NFL player…. the guy was a projected 5th round pick in a POOR safety class and viewed as a special teams player at best and Roseman reached into round 2 for him… .the kid will be out of football in a year.

Matthews is not NFL Starter material.. He’s a Special teamer and a Back-up Player which is . He’s a Special Teamer and a back-up which is iexactly how I called it back in April at Draft time.. He is simply not quick enough to be an everydown LB.. He will get bigger,stronger and understand the Defense better, but he will never get faster…
You are right about Nick Barnett, he was all over the place and word was that he really wanted to play in Philly but never got a serious offer from the Eagles..Hhe was coming off a knee injury from last season, so many teams just stayed clear of him.. but he’s always been a good player when healthy and always around the ball and real leader type and he sure looked pretty healthy to me last week… ..

Nick barnett, we saw stephen tulluch on monday night making good plays, and these guess have alot of speed and desire to tackle and be impactful…I definitely wanted nick barnett but the birds could of signed both of them.. but instead they wanted to work with the draft picks and young guys which in hindsight probably wasnt the smartest move being that you decided to impliment a new defensive scheme(wide9) in a shortened time… Im still behind these guys 100 percent but theyve looked awful and theyre fully aware of that. week 6 is the week i said theyd start to look good so lets see if im dead on which iam 95% of the time if not more… im being modest lol…
If Brandon Graham was allowed to play DE, instead of being forced to play DT half of his snaps, he would have did better & would have stayed healthy. Thus another example of square peg in round hole Reid, & his incompetent cronies, f^#@ing $#!t up! Food for thought! Just saying!
Bring Ray Rhodes back!!! If hes still alive (no offense what so ever i really dont know)… He drafted the majority of the guys before reid took over and reid benefited from those inpact defensive players Rhodes had an eye for… reid is offense all the way lets not kid ourselves, he ll try to outwit, and out score you before he rely on his defense… early on in his tenure if you recall the defense swon the majority of the games, bc the offense stunk… BDawk and trott and many others held it down for many yrs…
The reason the safeties have gotten worst is from poor drafts.. instead of going for the sure thing the eagles organization tries to outsmart everyone, we can see that approach on the field too… but thats certainly the case.. lets hope the rookie J Jarrett has something we can build off of and were most likely going to get our first look this sunday bc jarrett has been getting work in with the ones this week…

Generally speaking I would agree with G, but I would like to see Colt Anderson get a shot at one of the starting safety positions. Coleman has already proven numerous times that he can be a liability on defense…he may recover from his previous efforts but I’d also like to see someone that hasn’t yet screwed a starting spot get a shot.

The way this Defense has been playing and now with injuries starting to mount on the DL, they probably feel that he is well enough to get out there for the last 8-10 weeks and if heatlhy enough, why not see what he can do to get a jump start on the 2012 Season since they are struggling big time Defensively with what they have and this season playoffs chances are probalby ove rwith a loss versus the Redksins….

I thought it was interesting to hear Castillo even mentioned yesterday that they have has Safety Jarrett take some reps with the 1st Team and also had CB C Marsh participate in some dime coverages with the 1st unit… here’s a couple of youn players with promise who haven’t even been active yet and notw the DC is mentioning their names in possibly seeing some action..
I think the EAgles are going topull th trigger and look to trade CB A Samuel be traded by Tuesday’s Trade Deadline and right now, I would say teams like the Lions,Titans,Seahawks and even the Panthers would be interested in his services, but with a lot of team bumping the Salary Cap, it may not work financially for a team until after the Season is over ,,
