After back to back shut outs Temple Football (5-2) (3-1) looks to keep up their winning ways against Bowling Green (3-4) (1-2). Temple is led by a stout defense, giving up a mere 9.6 points per game ranked second in the nation.
Of course you can’t talk about the offense of the Owls without starting with Heisman Trophy candidate Bernard Pierce. He is one of the nation’s best running backs and he is currently leading the country in scoring with 102 points, which includes 17 rushing touchdowns. Pierce is among the top five in rushing with 844 yds.
Backing up Pierce is Matt Brown who at 5’5 170 pounds is the small, speed back of the two. He’s averaging a whopping 6.1 yards a carry. Brown is coming off of back-to-back 100 plus yard games.
Both Pierce and Brown should have big days on Saturday against a Bowling Green defense that isn’t anything to write home about.
At quarterback Temple has a two-quarterback system with Mike Gerardi and Chester Stewart sharing the snaps, they both offer a different aspect to the game Mike is more of the passer while Chester is the dual threat.
Bowling Green, who is having a rough season, losing three straight games, looks to refocus against a Temple team who is stingy on the defensive end of the ball and has a running attack that draws comparisons to the Auburn team that consisted of Eagle Ronnie Brown and Ram running back Carnell ‘Cadillac’ Williams. Bowling Green has to play a perfect game in order to beat Temple and hope for Temple to have an off game and that still might not be enough for this weeks game
Temple will face a balanced Bowling Green offense led by Bowling Green’s Quarterback, Matt Schiltz, who has almost 1700 yards passing with 17 touchdowns. He’s got big numbers in touchdowns but he’s also prone to turn the ball over because he’s already thrown 8 interceptions.
Bowling Green’s running game is not as stacked as Temple, but they still has two decent backs with Anthon Samuel taking most of the carries. He’s carried the ball 100 carries for 595 yards with 4 touchdowns.
Prediction: Temple – 38
Bowling Green – 6
Go Owls,
The Best Collegiate Program (BCS Division) in the State of Pennsylvania..
Penn State should be ashamed of themsevles with all their Resources,Facilites and Tradition to put out a Team like they have over the last few seasons..
It’s beyond sad, it’s getting to be embarrasing and I hate when opposing coaches start feeling sorry for Joe Pa and have their teams run out the clock instead of running up the Score versus the inept Nittany Lions beacuse they all have respect & admiration for Joe Pa… (and now Pity..)
Paul, ahem… PITT. Way better in basketball the past 10 years, and better in football as well. No contest
I meant to state in Football..
Pitt has a great B-Ball program for years and Penn State goes thru more Coaches that Christie Aguileria does Customes during her Concerts(she’s from Pittsburgh area).. Pitt’s a great school and a great City and surpasses the Philly area for an overall “Quality of Life” ranking in almosy every major category.. ..
Yeah, and Pitt football has outperformed Temple Football, so while I’m all for giving Temple it’s props for improving and being a good school/sports school, your statement “The Best Collegiate Program (BCS Division) in the State of Pennsylvania.”… is wrong
paulman, you are more interested in being a prick than being accurate, in your quest to trash Penn state, a program in decline, you overstate temples status and overlook Pitt, a program that consistently out recruits Penn state, temple not even close, and Pitt players far more productive in NFL than either of the other two, Revis Fitzgerald, shady, Dion lewis, to name a few, and now you are already talking out your ass about baseball, predicting the Phil’s third next year behind braves and nats, you are one funny clown
Pitt was on a roll for the last 5-8 Years and no doubt the best Program in the State, but Wannstadt always choked as a Coached int heBig Games when It mattered.. It’s hard to think that with a good game time Caochm, that Pitt should have domintated the weak Big East and been in some BSC Bowl Games with the amount of talent they have had.. Wannstadt was a great recruiter and teacher and coach for players to play at the NFL Levle, but an absolutely horrible game day Coache which made them underperform each and every season in my opinon, so for that, they are as bad as Penss State.. Temple has sent more players to the NFL in the last 2 Drafts than Penn State has.. Is that Crazy and to be real honest, College Football sucks in the Northeast anymore since most of the talent, good coaching plays here in the Southeast Region (ACC & Southeast Conferences) and Yes, I think Penn State has already become irrelavant in the College Football seen outside a 200 mile radius of State College..
I think the Run of Profession Sports for Philly (Eagles and Phillies) is over as both teams, franchise are declining.. Phils will be competitve but they are too old and injured to make in impact come Playoff time.. and the Eagles are just a mess right now with big expectiations for this season shot out the window by Halloween.. There will be changes and players leave for bigger bucks elsewhere.. This team will be looked back as one of the most exciting teams led by an exciting QB in VIck who just never won much or won when it counted… l compare the Eagles to the Dolphin Teams of Marino’s later years.. Put up a lot of points, had a lot of talent and spent a lot of $$$, had a coach who got too comfortable in his ways (Shula) and was too stubborn to admit and change any of his ways but their teams were home early come playoff time..
and Temple blows it 13-10 to Bowling green, what’s with Philly SPorts here lately.. does every damn team have to choke when the expectations become higher.. unbelievable…
