Of course when the Birds go on the field defensively, they'll be a lot of talk about the guys who won't be out there, Jim Johnson, Brian Dawkins and Stewart Bradley, but I'll be watching the middle linebacker, Joe Mays.
I don't think Mays is going to have a problem shining tonight because the Patriots aren't going to make it a point of attacking his pass defending skills. Mays will do a good job against New England's running game.
He won't be truly be tested until later in the preseason. In the second or third game one of teams will decide to put in a game plan to attack him.
The battle at the safety position will get more interesting tonight because Sean Jones might be able to standout in a game situation.
The starter at the position, Quintin Demps will get the chance to make some plays and he has shown in practice that he's very capable doing it.
I want to see Chris Clemons start this season the way he ended last season. His speed and versatility will give Sean McDermott the chance to mix things up and keep offenses off balance.
I'll be watching safety Victor "Macho" Harris to see whether he's going to make this team. Right now he doesn't look like he'll make it. He's not fast enough to be a pro corner and he will have trouble making the team as a safety.
Harris will have to be a killer on special teams to take Rashad Baker's job. Baker has proven to be a better safety than I thought he would be.
