Andy Reid has kept his ideas of how to employ Michael Vick in his offense close to his vest. He has mentioned the wildcat but has given very few details about what exactly he would do with the talented QB.
Yesterday we got a glimpse of one of the ways he might be employed.
The Birds were going through their team period which has the entire offense running plays against the team's second string defense.
I say the entire offense because at the beginning of practices, they start with individual drills where the quarterback group works on certain skills unique to their position.
The receivers work by themselves on certain skills.
The tight ends work seperately.
During this time the offensive linemen pound away on each other, blocking dummies and the blocking sleds.
The same thing takes place on defense during this period.
Next up they get together as groups to work on specific areas. The quarterbacks and wide receivers work on some pass routes. One or two of the quarterbacks will go work with the running backs and tight ends on specific routes.
After all these individual and group drills, the entire offense comes together, puts in some plays and at certain the entire offense gets together to run the team drill.
Well at the end of this team period yesterday, in fact on the very last play after Donovan McNabb, A.J. Feeley and the offense had worked on quite a few passing plays, Michael Vick was summoned by Reid.
He went in at the quarterback position and they had him lined up in the shot gun.
What do you think the play was?
If you guessed QB draw you were right. Vick took the snap, set in a passing position as if he was looking for an open receiver downfield, then he tucked the ball under his arm and took off.
No he didn't turn on the after burners, he was running at 50 to 60%, and that was the end of that team period.
