I know this may seem like an innocuous incident, but there could be trouble brewing here.
You may have heard about this blog posting by Michael Vick (supposedly) on GlobalGrind.com. PFT was curious as to the authenticity of it, so they contacted Derek Boyko at the Eagles to see if this blog post was really from Vick himself.
Boyko's response to PFT: "It is not," Boyko said by e-mail. "I just asked him."
But now, GlobalGrind.com, which is owned by Russell Simmons and is not a rinky-dink little site, says they stand behind that blog post as belonging to Michael Vick.
In an email to the Philadelphia Daily News, a Def Jam (also owned by Simmons) spokesperson said "I assure you that Russell Simmons spoke with Michael Vick a little over a week ago . . . and Michael committed to writing an exclusive blog for GlobalGrind.com, which would be released simultaneously with Michael's appearance on 60 Minutes. We stand 100% behind the blog's authenticity."
It's not that there is anything bad in the blog. It's actually another act of contrition on Vick's part. But the bigger issue is whether or not Vick lied to Boyko. In case you didn't get a gander at Jeffrey Lurie's press conference on Friday, he made it real clear that Vick is essentially operating with 2.99 strikes against him. One more lie could seal the fate of Vick as an Eagle.
Stay tuned on this one. No way this is over. But somebody has some 'splainin' to do. I actually have a tough time thinking that Vick would lie about something like this, but we'll see.
