I couldn't help but feel sorry for Eagles back up quarterback Kevin Kolb who said he had a conversation with fellow backup quarterback A.J. Feeley about the rules regarding NFL substitution rules for quarterbacks.
Kolb didn't make the trip to Indianapolis with the team because of an injured knee, so he was free to be interviewed by Howard Eskin on 610-WIP.
On the show, Kolb talked about how he and Feeley had discussed Andy Reid's idea of utilizing Michael Vick for 5, 6 or 7 plays each week out of the wildcat formation, which would mean that Vick and not Kolb would be for all intents and purposes the second string quarterback.
If McNabb were to get injured and Reid sent Kolb into the game, that would mean neither McNabb nor Vick could come back into the game.
Kevin said he trusted Reid who told him he was the team's second string quarterback. He said he hoped he would be the guy to step in if McNabb were to get injured.
Kevin said A.J. was nervous about his job. The truth of the matter is that Kevin should be nervous about his as well. I think Kevin is going to be the third team quarterback and A.J. is going to be sent packing later in the season when Vick is activated.
I know from my time around the NFL, each move a coach makes isn't by accident. Reid knew what the rule was when he decided to sign Vick and utilze him the way he plans.
Although he says he doesn't know what he's going to do, the truth is he doesn't want to tell everybody what he plans on doing and that includes Kolb.
As players we could always see the writing on the wall when they were going to replace somebody.
I don't think Andy Reid and the Eagles brought Vick in here to really be the third-string quarterback. It's just a matter of time before the truth surfaces.
