The Eagles Must Take This One Seriously

The Eagles have to add a higher level of seriousness to this upcoming game against the Jacksonville Jaguars because the first two games have included too many penalties and mental errors.

This is going to be portrayed as the "Michael Vick" game but this game isn't going to be about Vick, who probably won't get in there until the fourth quarter.

Every camera in the country will be focused on him when he enters the game on Thursday but the Eagles important work will have concluded by that time.

The Eagles need to put together a sharp two or three quarters of football.

Andy will usually play the starters for the first half is the third preseason game in order to get the best look at the football team he's going to enter the season with.  They need to put together a couple of quarters of good football in order to gain some confidence.

There's a reason to be concerned because they can't begin the season assured that one side of the ball will be able to carry them.  In the past they could expect their defense to keep them in games regardless of who the opponent was.

This year with all of the changes to the defense it's not reasonable to expect them to start off at their best.  We've said it time and time again that they've lost Jim Johnson, Brian Dawkins and starting middle linebacker Stewart Bradley.

It would be understandable that they stumble a bit while starting the season.  Sean McDermott, Quintin Demps and Joe Mays have to get their footing.  They're going to make some mistakes.

I thought the offense would be the area which they could rely on, but all of the injuries to the offensive line have caused them to play some sloppy football.

They've got put together a couple of long drives to prove to themselves that they can do it.  They need to get as many of their starters out there, except Brian Westbrook who I don't want to see.

The first of half of this game against the Jaguars should be treated like a regular season game.
