The City of Brotherly Love is quite a source of comedy. It proudly boasts Bill Cosby as one of its well known natives. Current comedians Kevin Hart and Joe Conklin also claim Philadelphia as their home.
If you wanted to see who was new to the comic scene, you could always attend a show at the Laff House on South St. Nowadays, there’s another venue for laughs: Lincoln Financial Field.
There’s no other way to say it. The Philadelphia Eagles are a joke!! When you’ve acquired this much talent and accumulated a 3-6 record in the manner that the Eagles have, there is no way I can take them seriously while Andy Reid is the head coach.
Many fans of the Midnight Green team are beyond frustrated and emotional about the squad’s current state. Fans have become increasingly vocal about the removal of the coach with the most wins in team history.
Unfortunately, none of those wins include a Super Bowl victory and the way it looks that won’t be coming anytime soon. Many will try to use the NFL lockout and lack of OTAs as the reason a team this talented hasn’t gelled.
I think that’s a lame excuse. To understand why, all you have to do is look at first year head coach Jim Harbaugh and his 8-1 San Francisco 49ers. They’ve only blown one fourth quarter lead as opposed the Eagles five late game meltdowns.
It doesn’t take a detailed off season regimen to protect leads when the game is on the line. It takes leadership, a tough mentality and the ability to adjust in the middle of a challenge.
All of these things start with the coach. After that it trickles down to the coaching staff and players, both are areas that Reid makes the final decisions on.
Each Eagles loss this season was a tough pill to swallow, but none were as bad as yesterday’s 21-17 loss to the dreadful Arizona Cardinals. From the beginning it looked as if both teams were searching for ways to lose the game.
Once again, penalties were a big part of the Birds demise. The teams were even in the turnover department and the Eagles even had a pick six, so I’m not going to use turnovers as part of why they lost.
From the beginning the Eagles looked unconcerned, undisciplined and unprepared. Michael Vick’s last interception capped the disappointment. When he threw that pick, it looked as if he said “You know what…..Who gives a crap!!”
The one thing Reid did right was deactivate DeSean Jackson. I’m sorry but his absence was not the difference between winning and losing to the Cardinals. Do you really think his presence would have helped?? His poor attitude (regardless of his contract status) epitomizes the state of this team.
My wife was upset at me yesterday because I fell out laughing after Vicks game ending pick. I told her this team is so sad all I can do is laugh. Everything the Eagles have done or said this year has warranted the response “LOL”.
Juan Castillo (after coaching the offensive line for over a decade) becomes the defensive coordinator…….LOL
Danny Watkins (26 years old with a total of four years of football experience) is the 2011 first round pick…..LOL
Casey Matthews is named the starting middle linebacker……LOL

As a fan, I’ve removed my emotions from the equation after the loss to the Baltimore Ravens in 2008. Although I knew it wasn’t going to happen, any success by the Eagles after that game was considered a pleasant surprise.
Three years later, it’s even more obvious that a change is need at head coach for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Until I see Jeff Lurie at the podium saying “It is time that we go in a different direction”, the jokes will continue.
Birdo…think about what that coach would be taking over. You have a team with no defensive leadership. Cole is gone after next year and Samuel too most likely. There is no young talent on defense. We are stuck with bad contracts. Nnamdi appears to be declining and Babin will suck again without Washburn here. You would have to start all over again with the defense. Its a huge task to fix this. I don’t think it is as simple as you think. There are no FA LBs on the market next year that fit our system or would sign here. There is one good safety. The next regime would have to get immediate impact from about three draft picks to develop a young core on defense. It is a tough reclamation. It really would not be that simple.
Agreed. The Eagles haven’t just lost this season, they’ve lost in spectacular fashion. They took a Redskins’ approach to free agency which rarely works. The Vick signing was a bad move. It could still work out for them, but right now it looks like a bad decision.
My hope right now is that they stay healthy and continue to lose in embarrassing fashion so that ownership is forced to make a decision in the off-season.
What a mess this is! The more I think about it. At least a new coach would make it interesting again. Reid just creates disappointment every year. At least with a new coach it will be like 1995 or 2000 again when you didn’t have any expectations and were thrilled with success. This team has QB who is not capable of winning a SB and a defense that needs to be completely rebuilt. Once again, who would want this job???
You know andy as much as i love him i hate him. Its a love hate repationship. I love that he is more gusty this year Ill give him that and thats about all. The guy dosent understand run the damn ball!!! Im not saying it will solvente everything. But lets look at this for a minute…McCOY has 30 carries against the skins and the cowboys we win. So he then decide to follow it up with 16 carries against the chicago bears and 14 against the cardinals with only six in the second half. Mccoy should have 140 a game and a td if they would just feed the guy. This would also allow us to eat up clock and give an undersized defense some time to rest. Wonder why we keep giving up fourth quarter leads…cause the defense is tired. They get worn down. I feel like q broken récord here

Good job for the guys on here who are, well usually right!!! There are alot of opinions on here.For the last 2 or 3 years a few guys have been saying “Get Rid of Andy Reid,” “Phillies need hitters not pitchers,” ” Vick will suck again” I know Paulman was small minority this yr stating Phillies won’t beat the best with same hitters that choke last 3 years. Again good job, for anyone who was on record for last 2 yrs that 1) Reid needs to go 2) Phillies need hitters, 3) Vick sux, but would be better throwing just 25 passes a game and not 40
tonto….Vick got to NFCC with a team that ran the ball and had decent but not great defense in ’04. We could win with him but not the SB. Besides the defense is so hopeless I don’t even know where to start. Coordinator obviously, but then what??? Play man coverage? Ok. We would still suck against the run and give up big plays and have difficulty creating turnovers. Who is the leader going to be?? So many issues on defense.

With 4:46 left in the third quarter of the Eagles’ game against the Cardinals Sunday, LeSean McCoy blasted 29 yards down the right flat for a first down at the Cards’ 22-yard-line.
The Eagles had a first-and-10 deep in Arizona territory, they were 22 yards from a 21-7 lead, and McCoy was just getting warmed up.
Time for the Eagles to put away the lowly Cards and keep their flickering playoff hopes alive.
McCoy at that point in the game had 12 carries for 80 yards, we were heading toward the fourth quarter, which he rules, and the Cards’ defense didn’t want any part of him.
And they didn’t get any part of him.
McCoy, who is averaging an NFL-best 7.1 yards per carry in the fourth quarter, didn’t run the ball again on the Eagles’ next 10 plays and got only two attempts the rest of the game after his explosive 29-yard run.
And one of those two attempts came with Vince Young at quarterback after Michael Vick got banged up, with the Cards stacking the box, fully aware there was no way the Eagles were going to let Young actually throw the football.
Over the Eagles’ last 20 plays, McCoy got two carries. Two carries for an MVP candidate who’s one of the most dangerous fourth-quarter runners in NFL history. Two carries for the only tailback in NFL history with four career fourth-quarter touchdown runs of 45 yards or more.
Not Barry Sanders. Not Gale Sayers. Not Jim Brown.
LeSean McCoy.
In a flash, the Cards had become the fifth team this year to overcome a fourth-quarter deficit to beat the Eagles, and all McCoy could do was stand around and watch.
Inexcusable. Infuriating. Incomprehensible.
But not surprising.
We’ve seen Duce Staley ignored in crucial situations, and we’ve seen Correll Buckhalter and Brian Westbrook ignored in crucial situations. And now McCoy is getting the exact same treatment.
The difference is that at least back then, the Eagles usually had a big-time passing game with Donovan McNabb, so you could at least kind of understand what head coach Andy Reid and offensive coordinator and play caller Marty Mornhinweg were thinking, even if it was frustrating to see terrific weapons gathering dust on the bench.
Now? Vick looks lost. Honestly, right now he looks worse than McNabb ever did while he was here. Jackson, the Eagles’ biggest receiving weapon, wasn’t in the stadium Sunday. Jeremy Maclin was banged up, on and off the field. The Eagles had one weapon left and the Cards had no way to stop him.
And still, McCoy was criminally under-utilized for a second straight game (see blog post).
Let’s see … keep chucking the football 10 yards over Riley Cooper’s head or give it to McCoy and watch him take over the game.
Hmmmm. Tough call.
Consider how brilliant McCoy has been this year. He leads the NFL with 10 rushing touchdowns. Despite ranking sixth in carries, he’s second in rushing yards, just 11 behind Matt Forte. His 5.5 average is just a fraction behind NFL leader Fred Jackson. He’s run for 57 first downs — 17 more than anybody else in the league.
On 33 of his 151 carries this year — 22 percent — he’s run for 10 yards or more.
And he’s done all this without the luxury of getting to play against the Eagles’ defense.
McCoy’s career average is now up to 5.0 yards per carry, and only three tailbacks in NFL history with at least 500 carries have a higher average — Bo Jackson, Jim Brown and Mercury Morris.
McCoy’s career rushing average is higher than 18 of the 21 running backs in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
What has it earned him?
Two carries in the fourth quarter against Chicago and two carries in the fourth quarter against Arizona.
Both games were winnable. Both games Vick struggled. Both games the Eagles led in the fourth quarter. Both games McCoy had big numbers through three quarters.
And both games, McCoy was forced to watch like the rest of us, helpless as the Eagles gave away yet another fourth-quarter lead.
It’s preposterous.
What makes all of this even more absurd is that it looked like Andy and Marty had finally come around on the importance running game when they gave McCoy 28 carries against the Redskins and 30 more against the Cowboys. Guess what? The Eagles controlled the clock, beat down both defenses, won both games and got themselves back to 3-4 with a chance to salvage something of this wretched season.
Since then? McCoy had 16 carries for 71 yards against the Bears and 14 for 81 against the Cards.
Loss. Loss.
Both games, the Eagles led in the fourth quarter. Both games, they allowed double-digit points in the fourth quarter. Both games Shady had just two carries in the final quarter, when he’s averaged nearly six yards a pop in his career.
Season over.
The Eagles have run 33 fourth-quarter offensive plays the last two games, and four have been McCoy runs.
Four for 33.
If McCoy had gotten 25 carries against the Bears and 25 more against the Cards, the Eagles would be 5-4 right now and playing for a share of the NFC East lead Sunday night against the Giants at the Meadowlands.
Instead, they’re 3-6 and talking about what could have been.
Nobody can stop McCoy. Nobody can slow him down.
Nobody except his own head coach.

A real tell-taling precursor to this years fiasco was the day the Eagles Singed Nnamdi Asmogoah.. When asked what the plans are for him in this new Defense to GM Roseman, His Response was, “We are not sure, we really are surprised that we were able to get him, so we jumped at the chance..”
This tells you right here from the GM’s Mouth that what was the master plan in the Off-Season..It’s one thing to sign Free-Agents, but it’s another to sign the rght ones which fit your scheme, your locker room and your overall plan of things moving forward.. I don’t mean to pick on Asmo but the point I am trying to make is the GM Roseman was given the green light to spend XXXX amount of Dollars and he went on a shopping spree without making sure any of it would fit and work based on who was already here and what the schemes are, etc,etc… It’s a jokehow this Front Office and HC operate and now they are paying the price for shooting off the hip and signing this guym signing that guy and not knowing whether it’s a good move or not instead of takking care of the players who brought you here already
More screw=-ups– knowing you have DCR coming in a trade, why use a 3rd Round Draft pick for a CB… 2nd Round Jarrett was a 2-3 ROund Reach in a very weak Safety Class… Passing over much more talented and physically ready at teh LB position than Casey Matthews… I could go on and on..

Since he did lose 1 of ten already that leaves 4 losses to go…..i thought Andy would have kept it going after defeating Cowboys easily, thinking if he keeps this up and wins SB all is forgiven even though it took 12 freakin years to realize it. there is no way after cowboy game he will go back to 40 passes and 13 runs

The QB killer has struck again. No QB can survive with Reid’s deep-ball, pass-happy, no-run philosophy.
When he mixes in the run and leans the short-to-medium range passes, you results like the Dallas game and last year’s Falcons game.
Two different QBs, but the same result. Both games were over before the 4th quarter began.
I hope Vick sits, collects money and shares it with DeSean Jackson.

You say the players are no good, and I say it’s the system (on both sides of the ball). You also say that our newly acquired high-priced free agents aren’t as good as Reid thought they were. I say, again, it’s the system.

When Asomugha faced Fitzgerald last season as a Raider, he manned up on the dangerous receiver all game, holding him to two catches for 26 yards. On Sunday, the Eagles used a variety of looks, and Fitzgerald caught seven passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns. Eagles coaches love to say that they need to put their guys in a position to succeed. Having Jarrett on Fitzgerald late in the game was obviously not that.
Same two players, completely different results.
The only thing that changed was one moved to another team: The Eagles.

It’s not the players. It’s the coach. We have some players. Obviously, not all are great, but we have a core group of players that can win. They just need a real coach.
No one thought the Niners had a roster full of winners. In fact, many on this site laughed at the Patrick Willis signing. Admittedly, there was some risk involved, but didn’t we also take some risks?

But after learning he had broken 2 ribs on the second play of the game not one post saying ahhhh thats why he struggled. Not one post. How convienently noboby has shit to say about that. Why is that?

But Lurie and Jones were willing to have the entire NFL owner fraternity turn against them because they petitioned to have merchandising dollars go exclusively to the teams. As it is, the owners split all money earned on jerseys, cups, sweats, bobble-heads, whatever. But when McNabb was hot, he sold more Jerseys than anyone and Dallas is always way up their in sales, while other teams not so much. Jones and Lurie wanted to keep that money, and they didn’t care if the owners got angry.
Anyway, back to my point.
Lurie has lost a lot of merchandising money to the Phillies. That’s why he went all-in. He knows that if the Eagles ever won a Superbow, he’d make another billion. He knows that football is really the No. 1 sport, and he learned from watching the Phillies that the Philadelphia sports fans will support a winner like no other city. He wants a Lombardi and he knows Reid can’t get him one.
It’s over. Reid is gone. That’s my guess.

Who said he didn’t? Runyan told Reid that he “owned his man” against Carolina. He told him to keep running the ball. We ran all the way to the 20, then Reid called a pass, which was picked off. End of playoffs.
2nd thing is the DJax situation. DJax came in apologized to team with a heartfelt apology “per Jason Babin”, and vowed to never be a distraction again. What the real deal has been per Ike Reese and Jerimiah Trotter. DJax as we all know has been grossly underpaid but as a good faith and per the eagles he was told if he came in they would negotiate a contract. DJax came in kept his mouth shut. The Eagles havent made one offer. Do you consider that being lied to? On top of that DJax and Marty have had heated discussions that he was being used as a decoy to keep his numbers down. DJax had enough and acted out. Take it for what its worth. If you were in them shoes how would you react? Obviously it has effected him. Some will say play your ass off and you will geet the money. But everyone isnt the same when they are lied to.

Personally, I think the Eagles signed some very good free agents. Where they dropped the ball was with the Castillo move, the complete change in philosophy (which added to the linebackers’ responsibilities), and the way in which they used their free agents.
For years, we’ve been watching Cole disappear as the season progressed. But this year, it wasn’t just Cole. Cullen Jenkins (as well as others) came out like gangbusters, but they haven’t been heard from lately. That tells me that it’s wasn’t Cole, but the way in Cole has been used.
I feel it’s the same thing on offense. Vick was great for a while last year, then the defenses adjusted, but Reid never re-adjusted. He kept calling those deep routes, with max protect (which took our TE out of the game), but the max protect didn’t work. Vick was getting killed and started bailing (as any QB would do). After so many hits, he reverted to his old self, and after even more hits, he’s worse than he was in Atlanta. Vick showed that he would do the homework, that he was tough and that he could read defenses. He proved it against Dallas, but Reid refuses to call that type of game. At this point, although he’s tough as nails, Vick’s scared.
Reid did the same to McNabb. Reid called all those pass plays while McNabb was injured with the sports hernia, broken ribs, broken ankle and a bunch of other injuries. After a while, you ruin a guy (for life).
That’s why I’ve been calling Reid the QB Killer for a number of years.

I posted so many time last season, that they should pay Jackson something to keep the locker-room happy. I got a lot of heat for that. No prob. I’m a big boy and I recognize that my opinion is just that, “an opinion.”
A lot of people talked about the lock-out and 30% rule, etc. I kept saying that had nothing to do with giving him a bonus for making the pro bowl in two positions. He’s the only player to ever do it. So, even if another player made the pro bowl and wanted raise, they couldn’t use Jackson’s situation because was a pro bowl receiver/punt returner.
Long story . . . short, his absence was felt.
Jackson sets the table. His mere presence affects the defensive alignment and responsibilities. It’s then up to the offensive coordinator to exploit the change in alignment, i.e., attack the middle of the field.
It was the same with Vick. Once Vick made defenses go to overload on the right, Reid should have exploited that same side with draws, screens and quick hits, but he wanted to go intermediate and deep.

4. Drafted a Offensive Lineman older than Bob Barker. (with no experience)
5. Put an horrible offensive line coach in charge of the defense. I said it during the summer “it would be the worst coaching move in philly sports history.’ Only Richie Kotite has looked dumber on the Eagles sidelines.
6. Decides to field a defense of midgets playing on the Cold East coast. In a division with teams with big backs.
7. Waits forever to get weapons for McNabb then trades him after he gets the weapons.
