Lets be real, its highly doubtful that Michael Vick plays on Sunday. Even though he did play for most of the game with two broken ribs, it is not wise for the Eagles to put him back out there against the Giants. Vick is not Tony Romo, he plays a different style and leaves the pocket more than the usual QB. I’m sure that Vick will do anything he can to play on Sunday, but I doubt he will be cleared to play. However, There is NO QB controversy. So, if Vick is healthy, he is the guy.
That being said, Vick shouldn’t be able to go, so its up to Andy Reid to decide: Mike Kafka or Vince Young? I firmly believe that Young should be the guy. The Eagles brought in Young to be their backup, so why would they change their mind now? They just shouldn’t. Young is paid as a backup, and his role is to learn from the coaches, and be able to step in if Michael Vick gets hurt, as he did.
Yes, I know that Mike Kafka does know the offense better. Still doesn’t change my mind. He came in relief for Vick in Week 2 in Atlanta, and played well. However, the offense was conservative and very predictable. The Birds gave the ball to McCoy, and most of Kakfa’s completions were check-downs. After the game, Andy Reid said that he had “handcuffs” on Kafka, and that it was his fault for limiting Kafka. Even if he didn’t have “handcuffs” on him, Kafka has severe physical limitations that would change the Eagles game plan drastically. This includes his arm strength.
This would not be the case for Young, who has great arm strength and playing style that can sort of mirror Vick. Even though he doesn’t know the offense, his physical attributes are far superior to Kafka’s. Young uses his legs to make plays in the pocket, which is similar to Vick. He also has a strong arm that allows him to throw down the field and is accurate when he is given time to throw.
However Young’s best attribute was that he is a winner. He has a 30-17 record as a starter with the Titans, and has won games when they counted in the 4th Quarter. He led a memorable comeback a few years back, when he led the Titans down the field and threw a last second pass TD for a win against the Cardinals. He also won the National Championship in his junior year while at Texas. Young led the Longhorns down the field, and won the game scrambling to the end-zone. He has the quality of being ”clutch” when its counts, which also gives him the edge on Kafka. He’s been in these must-win situations before.
I’m sure that Marty Mornhinweg and Andy Reid can craft a game plan around Young, like they did for Vick that maximizes his physical strengths. The first thing they must do is RUN THE BALL! In Week 3 against the Giants, LeSean McCoy had 24 carries for 128 yards and a TD. It’s clear he was effective. McCoy was given the ball much in the first half, but the Eagles neglected him in the 2nd half, and the 4th Quarter. This needs to change, especially if the Eagles are without Vick. Vince Young hasn’t started since last year. The Eagles must ease him in with the run game early and they should have their opportunities to do so.
The Giants are ranked #20 in the NFL in rushing yards per game, giving up 121.6 yards on the ground. Ironically, the Eagles are the NFL’s #1 rushing offense. However, the Giants will be expecting this, so they will stack the box with defenders on running downs.
Even though they should run more, the Eagles can’t just give the ball to Shady all game, they must just be balanced. The Giants defense is also #17 against the pass. Their secondary is depleted by injuries and is very slow. The Eagles WRs, specifically with their speed, have had their way with them in the past. Hey, maybe Steve Smith could help this week!
It’s clear that Young should be the starter if Vick doesn’t play. He is a winner, and has far better physical attributes than Kafka. So, take shots down the field with Young, who has the arm strength to do so. Using screens to McCoy and Brent Celek would also be wise, and would cover up some of Young’s accuracy problems. The Eagles also must use McCoy as they used Westbrook over the years against the Giants, as he focal point of the offense and the “Giant Killer”. This would really help ease Young into the game, and open up the Eagles passing attack down the field against the Giants weak secondary. This is a big game for the Eagles, who should hand over their attack to someone who has won them before, and that’s Vince Young.
Are you kidding me. “Should be the guy”
Is this the Young who’s first and only pass this year went right into the arms of the other team? One of the worst passes I’ve seen in a long time.
The Young who came into the game last week and everyone in the stands and on the Cardinals knew he wouldn’t be allowed to throw the ball.
The Young who had 5 years and 54 games to roll out:
a 57% comp %, (Absolutely pathetic in the age of offence)
more INTs than TDs
an average of 145 passing yrds a game
a career 75.5 passer rating,
ANother “big armed” meathead to roll out there to watch run around and scatter balls all over the field. Fantastic.
The season is over. We know what Vince Young is, and it isn’t pretty. Give the kid a shot
We talk about making chages, well, we’ve been watching the “struggle to get to 60%, scrambly big armed guys for years now. Why not try the QB who can read, disect, understand. The 4 year college graduate. Academic all-american. The guy who I was told picked up the offense faster than any other player he’s ever coached.
Why not?
Vince Young we know. Kafka we don’t know. Season is over. Lets learn something.
I agree with Vinnie 100%
From here on out over the final 7 games, lets find out about the players who will be here and figure in the future plans of the Eagles
Players like VY, R Brown, Steve Smith are all goners and possibly OL E Mathis, let’s find out if Kafka is a legitimate Back-up QB, or RB Dion LEwis and WR R Cooper/TE C Harbor can do more and OL K Dunlap or Justin Vandervelde can play OG at the NFL Level,,
On Defense, get SS Jarrett in there and get as many reps for CB Hughes & Marsh since DCR is injured… at LB, get Casey Matthews some playing time over Fokou to learn and get experience..
Keeping DE J Parker has been a waste as I thought it would be since he hasn’t been healthy all Summer Camp/Season Long.. Let’s see more D Tapp,P Hunt and Graham for the remainder of the Season..
LMAO @Vinne
You mean the guy who won his team a national championship in the 4th quarter against what everyone thought was the best team EVER.
You mean the guy who was 2006 rookie of the year?
You mean the guy who has a 30-17 record in his Titans career?
You mean the guy who has 2 – 0 career record against the giants.
You mean the guy who saved Jeff Fischer’s job TWICE.
That guy shouldn’t take over for Vick but the fourth round QB should?
LOL. Come on Vinnie.
man I would rather you guys say what you REALLY want to say than to beat around the McNabb, Vick, Young common denominator… College Grad, Academic All American, picks the offense up fast… WHO CARES, KAFKA is a stiff. HE IS WHAT WE THOUGHT HE WAS… he’s a career backup. Vince Young has what a 30-17 record as a starter… who cares about completion percentages…I care about W’s. PLAY YOUNG if you really want to win, if not, play Kafka. Under know circumstances do I want to see a bunch of backups getting reps either.
Cripes, Chuck don’t bring the race card into this. Race had nothing to do with why people didn’t like McNabb and it certainly has nothing to do with V Young. V Young is not a long term solution here, so people want to see what Kafka is. They are not going to keep Young past this season at 5 Million per year. Vick is staying because of his contract, so they need to find out if Kafka can be the back-up.
still not ready for Kafka to be the backup… not playing the race card either… BUT man this Vinnie guy I call a spade a spade. The last thing I would want to play is the race card in 2011. Well Maybe it’s me, I just don’t want to see Kafka and give up on the season. Kafka behind center tells me that the season is officially over.
I don’t give a damn who it is, just bring some leadership on the field, show interest, and after all it is the giants
@Bugsy
Um…Vinnie is playing the “race card.” And RACE was a BIG part of why folk don’t like McNabb, Vick and Young.
Call a spade a spade. Young assuming he knows the playbook and by now I don’t see why he wouldn’t, is the backup. He knows how and has won games and more importantly is 2-0 in his career against the GIants.
I’ll take him over a lowly 4th round QB any day.
I loved McNabb from 1999 – 2006. I went to several Syracuse games to watch him play. I knew the Birds were going to take a QB at draft and had fingers crossed for McNabb. God forbit it had been Akili Smith (oh no! Race Card!)
So call that spade whatever you want.
I don’t like Vick or Young because they’re crummy QBs.
Shut up you canadian turd.
Chuck and Tsjohn- I will admit that I didn’t read Vinnie’s post. I have stopped reading his posts because of his antti-Vick agenda. I disagree with such a wide stereotyping of the whole fanbase. Did race have something to do with it? Sure, but to call it big or the main reason is flat out wrong.
I am ok with going with Young for the next couple of games, but the season is lost. This team is not going to make the playoffs. There are too many other teams in the NFC that will finish with a better record than them. Let’s say the Saints, 49ers, Giants and Packers win their divisions. You have the Lions, Bears, Falcons and probably Cowboys who will probably finish with a better record than the Eagles. Do you think that Young is going to be the back-up next year at 5 mil per or do you think that they should spend that money in a much better way? Of course Young is a better QB, but my point is that he is not going to be here next year.
tsjohnson5
You really rolling with the “Vince young is 30-17 so he MUST be good” business?
Did you ever watch a Titans game? This whiny, no effort crybaby couldn’t even keep his starting job.
Do you know what they had to do to that offence to make it work for him? Enjoy the one WR offence. I’m sure Maclin and Desean will enjoy being on the field for 12 plays a game each.
You think he’s going to be able to handle the full offence? You saw waht happened last time 0 for 1 -45 yrds. FANTASTIC!
Good grief. If he’s in vs Giants, expect 13-27 for 135 and 2 INTS. But he’ll run for 75, so its all good.
@Vinnie
Spare me. You quoted stats. I quoted stats.
Kafka was put in and threw what 3/4 interceptions in a very manageable GIants game.
You cherry pick stats to prove a point. Period. 30 -17 is 30 – 17 – call it how you like it.
Oh about that starting job – he was benched TWICE. The Titans were getting KILLED. TWICE the owner forced Fisher to put Young in. TWICE he bought them back to sanity (.500).
He has MAJOR problems but his quarterbacking ain’t one of them.
Wait, Kafka has physical limitations? I’m sorry, I thought Vince was the one that’s been battling injuries his entire career.
We’ll see how you’re thinking about that last statement come 11:00 pm Sunday.
Guys on here just nedd to come clean….some guys like Vinnie would cheer for Greg Brady of the damn Brady bunch over a guy simply because he’s white. It
s starting to become obvious.
Kafka over Vince Young? Are you freakin kiddin me?
Look at the pay grade!!!!!
So, the Eagles paid Young over 5 million:to backup Kafka?
Kafka is garbage and will never be more than a backup in this league…The same for Kolb.
Give me a damn break guys.
agree songs, Kafka is lucky to be a back up in this league, and it appears Kolb is a bum, but damn, Vick sucks this year bad, I am looking forward to watching young play, he is very good in the all important stat of wins and losses
As fans we may have given up on the season, but the coaches definitely haven’t and it’s their job not to. We’re going to see Young this weekend whether we like it or not.
We’re not racist for saying we don’t like Young, though. He’s shown nothing for us this season. He may have been a winner in the past but there was a reason he was available on the free agent market after playing so well for the Titans in the past. The key phrase is “in the past”.
Everyone you just called racist is going to be cheering for Vick when he’s healthy again. Let’s leave talk about common denominators out of it. With all the people who have cheered for years for Dawk, Shady, Westbrook, DJ, Maclin, Trotter, etc it isn’t fair to call us racist when we don’t like a quarterback who just happens to be black who isn’t actually any good.
horatio..I’m not talking about positions we’re use to seeing blacks play…I’m talking about the QB position.
Guys tried to mask their racist views by using Vick’s past in dogfighting as a reason for not wanting him here…now there’s a guy with a winning record here and guys would rather see a 4th round stiff because he’s white. Look at all the fanfare oakland received with trading for Bum ass Carson Palmer who have done absolutely nothing with superstar receivers throughout his career. If Palmer was the free agent pickup making 5 mill this year would anyone out there be asking for Kafka against the Giants?
Come on guy…you must admit there’s an heir of racism when it comes down to the QB position. The Eagles organization have not been racist toward the position but some fans would rather see a white QB whether he’s good or not.
There is no doubt that VY is the far more accomplished QB and who should get the start if the EAgles are trying to put their best availalbe teem forward to win SUnday… the only question I have and it’s a legitimate Football question and
not a racial/favortism one.. What do the Eagles want to accomplish over these final 7 games since they are out realistically out of the Playoff Race..
It get’s down to playing to win now and win as many games in 2011 with a roster who most likely will have quite a few player not be back in an Eagle Uniform or play some younger players who are signed and under contract who will playing for the Eagles the next couple of Seasons..(players like Kafka, RB D Lewis, WR R Cooper, TE C HArbor, CB’s Marsh and Hughes, DL Hunt , Tapp, etc, etc)
1 Year Deal players like VY, R Brown, S SMith, E Mathis, (J PAge who was already released) most likely don’t fit in the future plans of the Eagle due to being back-ups, higher salary players and just not good fits for the Eagles for wahtever reason) Should these 1 Year Players take snaps away for younger players who the Eagles should find out about or do you play to win the games now… Will anyone remember a coupld of years from now whther the Eagles finished 5-11 or 7-9 or 9-7 in 2011 but still didn’t make the playoffs..
Good and difficult decisions need to be made now and ifins out who your players are moving forward.. may the best players play but you have to keep an eye on players who fit your future plans so the Eagles can avoid another disappointing season in 2012, play the young guys who will be here to see what they have is my thought … but who knows, maybe VY can flourish in this system with playing time and practice with the #1 Starters..
I just don’t think that’s what’s going on here. Young wore out his welcome in Tennessee for being inconsistent and injured too often. The people calling for Kafka just don’t believe Young can save the season, and they probably don’t even think the season can be saved, so we might as well find out if Kafka has any potential.
My comment was a reply to the idea that this is racism, not Paulman’s comment. I agree that most Eagles fans have given up and want to see the rest of the season used to develop the team for the future. I expect management to play at least this next game in the hopes of turning it around still.
Too funny. Let me get this srtaight. A bunch of Americans are calling me racist?
Who live in a city where every single menial task I’ve ever seen is being worked by someone who is black, where when I went to the South Street Diner about 10 yrs back, late at night, and my friend and I offered seats to a couple of girls who couldnt find any and we’re called “nigger lovers” by guys at the table behind us, only to have the girls tell us they better leave as it wasn’t good to be seen with us, from a country where half the states still had segregation laws as late as the 1970, where you can’t walk into certain neighbourhoods because you’re worried about race relations, where you actually think its a big deal for a person of colour or a woman to be elected to office when the rest of the world has been doing it forever, where you create gated communities to hide from minority groups, and where you have an insanely low participation rate for African Americans amongst QB and coaching positions, while guys like Warren Moon had to come to my country to play quarterback ’cause you wouldn’t accept them and where I was rooting for guys like JC Watts, Prince McJunkins and Damon Allen (since probably before you were born) long before you Americans would ever accept a black QBs.
You’re going to call me racist?
Mike Vick stinks for 1000 reasons, but his skin colour isn’t one of them. Vince young is worse. I think to be a QB in the NFL today, a player needs to be intelligent, quick thinking and studious. Its much more important than arm strength or if a guy can run fast.
You want to call me racist because those 2 Qbs don’t seem very bright. Whatever. But before you call me racist, take a look in your own backyard at an education, social, and residential system that marginalizes and ghettoizes your various minority groups.
Look in your own mirror before you go calling others racist.
The underground railraod ran towards Canada Songs, not away.
JC Watts was my idol when I was 11 and he played for the Rough Riders. Blow the racism shit out your ass.
@Vinnie
Oh yes the good ol “I have black friends” comment to prove one is NOT being racist. Spare me. It is what it is. America (my home) is def a racist country…but read your posts…you sound just like your typical American racist.
Ok. Let me see how your world works tsjohnson.
I say nothing and let acusations fly = clearly racist.
I say something about ridiculous accusations = clearly racist pretending not to be
Did I get that right? I’m racist no matter which way you cut it. Nice!!
Paulman….We’re still 2 games back and this game have meaning if we can beat the Giants Sunday.
I think the Eagles should do everything possible to beat the Giants and if they lose go to your plan of seeing the young guys for next season.
Songs,
They are 3.5 behind the Giants for the Div lead
3.5 behind Chicago for wildcard 1
3 behind Detroit for wildcard 2
They would have to leapfrog Atlanta 2.5 ahead, Dallas 2 ahead, and Tampa 1 ahead.
Assume that NYG, Chicago and Detroit go 3-4 each down the stretch. That gets them all to 9-7.
Birds would have to go 7-0 to pass them.
They just lost to Arizona. Season is done. I am all for seeing new guys and fininding out what they can do.
There are lots of stats being thrown around here without context.
VY is 30-17 as a starter. Over that time, the Titans were slightly under .500 without him. Almost all of those wins without him came in 2008, when the Titan’s had the NFL’s 2nd ranked defense. Take away 2008 and the Titans won 3 or 4 games without VY. VY is the Titans/Oilers all time leader in winning percentage- better than McNair, Moon, or Blanda.
The common misconception is that the Titans won with defense. In 2008 they had a great defense with Collins starting at QB. In 2007 they made the playoffs with VY and #8 scoring defense. Aside from that, they had an average defense in 2010 (#15 in scoring) and terrible ones in 2009 (#28) and 2006 (#31). A great defense may have bailed out Kerry Collins in 2008, but it never bailed out VY.
Others claim that VY rode Chris Johnson to his success. Over his career, CJ averages more than an extra yard per carry with VY than without. That’s even excluding this season (the worst of his career). Sure Cj helped VY, but VY made a huge difference for CJ.
You might hear that Fisher had to “hide” VY with conservative play calling. In 2010, VY, Collins, and Rusty Smith all had more or less the same number of first quarter passes per snap. The differences came later in the game and are more situation dependent (ie. trailing with Collins and needing to pass; nursing a 3 point lead with VY and running the clock). Fisher (run, run, pass) is the anti-Andy Reid (pass, pass, pass). Both can be frustrating for opposite reasons.
You’ll hear how VY’s record against .500+ teams is a “poor” 13-14. 13-14 would be top 15 all time and is better than Peyton Manning, Cunningham, Tarkenton, McNair, Fouts, Griese, and Jurgenson. Only 10 QBs in NFL history (min 50 starts) have a career winning record against .500+ teams.
Finally and most importantly, you’ll hear how VY can’t throw. He sucked as a passer his first 2 seasons, no doubt. Most NFL QBs not named Marino struggle early. The important thing is whether or not the player improves.
And boy did VY improve. He made 18 starts in 2009-2010 (saving the 2009 season and nearly making the playoffs after an 0-6 start!). In 2009-2010 VY was 26-27 years old. How does his passer rating (or any other efficiency stat) compare with other QBs at the same age? VY had an 88.8 QB rating over those 18 starts. Over the ages 26-27, Tom Brady had an 89.0 QB rating. In fact, VY’s 88.8 QB rating is 15th all time for QBs over the ages 26-27. Take any other efficiency stat and you’ll find similar or better results.
He was a terrible passer when he entered the league, but over the past 2 seasons he’s shown that he’s grown into a pretty special QB. He’s not Brady (Brady won 2 Super Bowls over the ages 26-27), but he’s an excellent passer.
He’s an excellent passer, an excellent runner (holds the NFL rookie QB rushing record), an excellent leader (ask Kenny Britt, CJ, Bo Scaife, Albert Hainsworth, his Longhorn teammates, or the 2006 and 2009 win/loss columns), and clutch (ask the 2009 Arizona Cardinals, NY Giants, Houston Texans, USC Trojans, Kansas Jayhawks, Oklahoma State Cowboys, or the car that hit him when he was 10 years old).
Fear not, VY’s here to save your season.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! This $#!t keeps getting funnier! VY stinks, Kafka stinks. What’s the f^#@ing difference. You nitwits are arguing over race, when they both suck elephant nads. Give it a f^#@ing rest. Who gives a crap!? I’m setting the over- under of interceptions at 3. Any action out there!? They lose by 3 td’s this week, my lads! 35-14. Shady, gets the only 2 scores. Reid abandons the run in the 3rd quarter.
Damn fellas this thread is getting heavy…….let’s get a little common sense here. VY deserves to get his shot to see what he can do, give hime a few games to rest Vick and at least we’ll know whether he has a future here or maybe trade value(which he prob has anyway)….
Sometime back Gary Cobb asked that WE not bring race into the discussions. It’s bad for business!
To his credit the dude Vinnie makes his arguments thru stats.. Which most would admit are compelling.
I’ll tell you this….If Maclin doesn’t play this week, the Eagles will be in trouble no matter who the QB is…I think Reid said, if Maclin can’t go Cooper is starting? We have no depth at WR, non whatsoever! Avant has been hiding in the shadows since his statements and I defended him…But you make those statements then come out with the terrible performances you’ved had as of late, that’s a violation…
Songs,
I think it’s all over no matter if the Eagles beat the Giants on Sunday
The Cowboys have a very favorable schedule and are playing some pretty good ball since the Eagles blew them out a coupld of weeks ago..
Cowboys are 5-4 with games versus Redskins,Dolphins,Cardinals,Giants, TB Bucs,Eagles & Giants left to play.. Only the Giants have a winning record..They probably will be 8-4 by the time their final 4 games come up and then slpit their final 4 to finish 10-6..
TY Gottaluv
@Vinnie lol,
I disagree with your assessment of Vick big guy. sorry. lol But I do agree with you about Vince Young and you are right on point with your assessment of American society and its hypocrisy.
Even if Eagles win oto go to 4-6, then upcoming games versus the Pats/Jets, flying out west to Seattle on a short week… this team is done no matter what in my opinion…
It’s looking like Packers,Saints,49ers are all in as division winners
Then the Giants/Cowboys battle it out for NFC East Crown
You have the Bears,Falcons,Lions,TB Bucs all in the hunt for Wildcard with the Bears & Falcons being in the best position right now with the Giants & Cowboys next due to their NFC Conference recrords.. With the Falcons, Bears,Cowboys already beating the Eagles in head to head games it’s over for the Eagles any way you slice & dice it… The Eagles would have to go 7-0 to even have a shot at winning the NFC East which isn’t going to happen while the Giants and Cowboys both go 3-4 or 2-5 over their final 7 games .
and quite frankly, this 2011 Eagle Team with their Coaching Staff and Players simply do not deserve to go to the Playoffs no matter what happens here on out… Let’s see what this team is made up of and see what younger players can do and are under contract and figure into the future plans for the Eagles play over the 1 year wonders who are gone after this season anyways(VY,R Brown,Steve Smith, etc, etc)
Calling a QB dumb, or not bright…isn’t using stats…Stats do not show how smart you are…I have no problem with stats, but if you use stats, you have to include Vick’s rushing yards, or how many times he gets a 1st down on 3rd down, a first down is a first down, no matter how you get it….Vinnie doesn’t like to use Vick’s rush stats…We all know, Vick made his name due to his legs, a big important reason as to who he is…if you can include those stats you aren’t being fair…
I think the wrong word is being used, I wouldn’t say racist and don’t believe Vinnie is…But prejudice is a word I’d use, and quite frankly we all have them…Some show them more than others…Vinnie is prejudice against athletic QB’s, prejudice against people that leave college early ,(they are not smart in his book)
As unthinkable as it seems, it might actually work to the Eagles advantage if Vince Young plays this week. Especially if the gameplan includes running the ball and screen plays.
Thank you real talk
I am ‘prejudiced’ against scrambling QBs. Guys who bail on plays early have never been able to win consistently in the NFL. I ignore Vick’s rushing stats because he is not a RB. The coach does not want vick to run, less he would be calling options and QB draws. He’s calling passing plays. This makes life difficult on the O-Line as well as the WRs who never have any idea what is happening behind them, or what to expect any play.
I also think that being a minimum 3 year college starter (min) is a huge predicator of future success. Not all 4 yr starters become successful of course, but the list of 1 and 2 year guys who leagve and become successful are….well. Pretty much non-existant.
History also shows us, that in the NFL over the past 15 years or so both O and D are becoming exctemely complicated requiring a much greater deal of prep/study etc. It is not an accident that the last 10 SB winning QBs were all 4 year senior graduates and I think 9 of them were academic-all american, and most graduated from something a little more involved than ‘recreational management”
I am a huge believer in the 26-27-60 rule.
(26 on Wonderlick min – 27 college starts – 60% comp in college as an indicator of pro success. Here are some recent QBs who passes those #s:
Sam Bradford, Peyton Manning, Phillip Rivers, Eli Manning, Drew Brees, Tony Romo, Matt Schaub, Kyle Orton, Kevin Kolb, Matt Ryan, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Matt Stafford.
Here are some who didn’t:
Jamarcus Russell, Ryan Leaf, David Carr, Heath Shuler, Jimmy Clausen, Jay Cutler, Joey Harrington, Tim Couch, Brady Quinn, Tim Tebow, Alex Smith (1 game short), Jeff George, and Vince Young (horrible Wonderlic).
This year 3 of the QBs drafted passes the 26-27-60 test: Dalton, Ponder, Gabbert. Newton did not.
My $$ is on Dalton becoming the best pro.
But don’t take my word for it…take Bill Parcells:
1.The quarterback must be a senior. . .because you need time and maturity to develop into a good professional quarterback
2.He must be a graduate. . .because you want somebody that takes their responsibilities seriously.
3.He must be a three-year starter. . .because you want to make sure his success wasn’t a fluke and to know that he has been “the guy” for a significant period of time.
4.He must have 23 wins…because big numbers don’t mean a whole lot if you don’t win
As for Vince young deing ‘dumb’. GO online and take the wonderlick yourself. Its so ridiculously easy. How he scored an 8 is beyond my comprehension.
paulman ,the season is not over until they are mathmatically eliminated, long shot, yes, but until eliminated you play the quarterback who gives you the best shot, no question its Vince young, that’s why he’s here and getting the loot, but where is Vick, broke ribs on second play, bs, more excuses, where’s the flack jack, if he doesn’t play that will seal the deal for me
Only way Vick don’t play is if higher powers that be, say no.
Steve Young was a scrambling QB. He worked out pretty well.
Exception to the rule perhaps. But he was a QB who scrambled, not a scrambling QB.
As a Qb, he was light years beyond Vick, and performed that way for years, not 4 games.
Young was also always at the very top of the league in comp% – One year leading the league with 70%, and that was when 55% was considered acceptable – today the minimum acceptable % is 60
He was always 2-1 (and several times 3-1) TDs to Int ratio
Can’t even compare the two as far as QBing is concerned.
back to this rib thing, chaps me good, when they asked shady about Vick breaking his ribs on the 2nd play, he said no, it was around the 4th quarter, then he was shown the play and he laughed, no way did Vick break his ribs on that play, but it gives the spin doctors all the excuses they need, and why does Vick iterate this crap, the NFL is now the WWF, catering to a large diverse and growing fan base it doesn’t necessarily matter if you are the best player, if you have brand appeal you start, tim Tebow is the perfect example of that, he has huge followers from his college days, statute of him in, Gainesville, huge Christian following, the guy threw 8 times the last game, so we have to make excuses for Vick to maintain the mirage that he’s an elite quarterback
I hear you Jake about the mathematical possibility, But I will go out on a limb to state that it won’t happen (yes Schiller, I am predicting Future events again)
The Deal was sealed with me after the Bears loss
I stated and believed at the beginning of the Season that NFC conference games versus the Falcons,49ers,Bears & Cardinals would determine if the Eagles had a shot at the playoffs even as a Wildcard and the fact that they lost all 4 games gives them no chance to even get into a Wildcard position
I also Stated that only the NFC East Divisional Winner would make the Playoffs and right now the Giants/Cowboys will battle it out for that Top Spot
Better overall depth and teams in the NFC North and South Division as has been the case for the last coupld of seasons
Paulman…since you’re speaking of the 49ers….Is anyone out there surprised that the 49ers & Lions may have a better chance at getting a Superbowl before us?
We stay competitive while teams rebuild with good coaching and win championships. Keep in mind guys that Mike McCarthy was not highly touted over andy reid…..but which coach would you rather have?
songs i would rather have ried , cause he promises to keep doing a better job!
