The Eagles just started their practice today and Kevin Curtis will miss yet another workout due to swelling on his knee. They say his hamstring and groin problems are items of the past, so they’re counting on him for the opener.
If this were 2009, he would history because of three factors. First of all he’s been having a series of injury problems. This is just the one that’s bothering him right now.
He’s making some great money for a wide receiver here in Philadelphia. When you consider how tight Joe Banner has been about giving money to wide receivers, Curtis should be happy with his deal.
Finally Curtis is over 30 years of age, which is a major problem for the Birds front office because you don’t stay around here beyond 30 unless you’re a special football player.
Curtis’ injuries are opening the door for rookie Jeremy Maclin who has been making the best of it. He’s gaining the confidence of both Andy Reid and the guy who is going to decide who gets the ball, quarterback Donovan McNabb.
I know the Birds were going to be rotating Maclin into the lineup even if Curtis was the starter. Now that Maclin is getting valuable work with McNabb and the Eagles first team, don’t be surprised if he gets quite a few plays at the split end spot until Curtis establishes some separation.
The more I look at Maclin’s progress and Curtis’ injury problems, it’s just a matter of time until it will be Maclin’s job.
Right now Curtis still has an advantage because of his experience and depth of knowledge of the offense.
