The Eagles gave defensive end Jason Babin a new contract and released tight end Eugene Bright, linebacker Curtis Gatewood and defensive tackle Willie Williams. It’s that time of the year and the Birds now have 72 players on their roster and must get down to 53 by 4pm tomorrow.
The Birds released the information about the signing of Babin at about 6pm this evening. There was no question about Babin making the football team, he had the best preseason of the all the Eagles defensive linemen.
He had been a number one draft pick a number of years ago out of Western Michigan but had been labeled a bust after failing to make his mark with a couple of teams.
Like so many players Babin talked about being assigned to play the wrong position, but so far this summer he has convinced all of us that the Texans had him playing the wrong position. He has been a man on a mission, we’ll see if he can take that into the regular season.
