Demps Not Starting But Eager About Special Teams

Quintin DempsFirst he lost the battle at weak safety to Macho Harris, now Quintin Demps has come up short in the battle to be the team’s number one kickoff returner to Ellis Hobbs.

Special teams coach Ted Daisher says he loves Demps as a kick returner, but when you look at the stats, there hasn’t been a better kick returner in the league over the last few years, than Hobbs.  So he feels he has to go with him.

According to Daisher, Demps has shown a lot of character because he’s been enthusiatic about taking on the role as one of the core members of the special teams, despite not getting the starting weak safety job.

Daisher said Demps joins a group of core special teams players which consists of Moise Fokou, Macho Harris and Eldra Buckley.  They need some headhunters to step up amongst the group.

I hope Demps does like Jeremiah Trotter did a few years back when he came back to the Eagles and they made him backup and play the special teams.

He almost killed Giants punter Jeff Feagles. I want to see Demps, Fokou, Harris and Buckley take somebody’s head off.  Your special teams can bring a certian toughness to the your football team much like your defense.

We haven’t seen it yet, but the special teams return teams need to take their game to the next level.  Putting DeSean Jackson in there as the punt returners and Hobbs as the kickoff returner should help quite a bit.

They’ve got enough athletes but their coverage groups has got to step it up.

They surely don’t need Jeremy Maclin back there returning kickoffs.  He is not a kickoff returner.

Daisher said he wants to get Sav Rocca back in rhythm for the game on Sunday against the Panthers.
