Eagles President Joe Banner said this year’s Birds roster was the best in the NFL but he didn’t say anything about the intelligence of this football team. This is definitely not the brightest group Andy Reid has had thus far.
The Birds have been having trouble making calls on the offensive line. I know Shawn Andrews injury problems are the main reasons Jon Runyan was worked out yesterday, but having another player on the line who is knows the blocking schemes and adjustments like the back of his hand is another reason he was brought in.
I know they were having some problems getting on the same page during the preseason game.
Have you noticed that Joe Mays was given a shot at the starting middle linebacker position but benched because he couldn’t pick up the scheme? I think the youngster is going to get better and better the longer he plays it but up until now he hasn’t been able to master teh defensive scheme.
Quintin Demps isn’t starting at the weak safety spot because he was making too many mental errors. You can’t have a weak safety who is so prone to making mental errors.
I was really very disappointed in veteran safety Sean Jones being unable to grasp the defensive system well enough to win the starting job. This guy has been starting in the league for years yet he was blowing too many assignments to capture a starting safety position.
I know all of these guys should get a better grasp of what they’re doing as the season progresses but many times the mental acumen is the key to fielding a quality football team.
