Donovan McNabb has a fractured rib and Andy Reid said he doesn’t know whether he’s going to play next week or not. I personally don’t think he’s going to play next week but I have seen players play with a flack jaket.
Tonight they will have him undergo an MRI in order to get a good look at the rib and exactly what type of shape it is in.
After getting a good picture of it, they will probably know exactly what are the chances that he will play next week.
The fact that it’s so early in the season will probably lead the Eagles to not want to play him. The Birds will play the Saints next week, then they have a game against Kansas City Chiefs and the following week, they’ll have a bye.
The prospects of McNabb missing only two games and not having this injury hanging over his head and over the team could influence them to sit him down. They would probably feel that they could at worst split the games between the Saints and the Chiefs without McNabb.
The Saints have a great offense but an awful defense. It’s going to be tough to beat them with a back up quarterback because of their tremendous offense.
The Chiefs are horrible. They’re one of the worst teams in the NFL so the Eagles probably think they could beat them with or without McNabb.
Looking at the schedule from that standpoint you can see why I think the Birds may sit Mcnabb down.
The wild card in this situation is McNabb sitting down with Andy Reid and trainer Rick Burkholder and convincing them that it’s not going to get any worse playing with a flack jacket.
As you can see from his lack of production in the game, they don’t want to play a high scoring team like the New Orleans Saints with Kevin Kolb as the quarterback if they can help it.
