Was it A. Jake Delhomme or was it, B. the Eagles secondary or was it, C. the Eagles pass rush or D. all of the above? D is probably the best answer because the Eagles defense isn’t that good but I’m starting to think Delhomme is really that bad.
Remember the Eagles had five interceptions and forced seven turnovers, plus they dropped a couple of interceptions that would have been pick-sixes.
Asante Samuel dropped one right in his hands that could have gone the other way for a touchdown and the same is true of Macho Harris. I could have pointed out other passes that defenders got their hands on, but we’ve just focus on the seven interceptions that they should have had.
I know the secondary is good especially our corners. I think the Eagles have the NFL’s best set of corners.
I think Sheldon Brown stepped up his game during the preseason and now during the season. He was good before but he outperformed Samuel during the preseason and training camp which is no easy feat.
Brown is playing the ball better and going for the interceptions. He’s not settling for knocking the ball down. Lack of big plays has kept Brown out of the Super Bowl and out of the big money.
If he continues with the interceptions, the Eagles are going to be forced to give him his money.
Brown and Samuels are the best that the NFL has to offer. I expect them to continue to play at the same high level.
Brown is one of the best fundamental corners in the league and Samuel reads routes better than any corner I’ve ever seen.
On a side note – could somebody please explain to me how the Panthers could give Delhomme a new contract this off season?
This guy threw five interceptions in the playoffs to cost them a possible Super Bowl run and they turn around and give him a 5-year contract for $42 million dollars with $20 million of guaranteed.
How do you think they’re feeling about that investment right now?
