I said time and time again last year that the Eagles then special teams coach Rory Segrest was horrible. I figured it couldn’t get worse but so far the Eagles special teams under new coach Ted Daisher hasn’t been what it was supposed to be.
They are making too many stupid mistakes and you can’t do that and expect to beat a good football team.
Special teams coach Daisher needs to have a conversation with defensive end Chris Clemons. This dude has been getting a penalty every other time he steps on the field.
Clemons must stop making stupid penalties. Remember he could have been called for clipping on the DeSean Jackson 85 yard punt return against Carolina.
I think he’s had a total of five or six penalties thrown on him in just two games. One time he was beating up on a defenders who had no chance to make the play. He must stop it or be sat down.
He’s also got to talk to punter Sav Rocca. Dude, stop punting the ball out of bounds. Focus on hitting the ball solidly and don’t worry as much about placing it in the corner all the time.
Quintin Mikell and Joselio Hanson got a penalty on a Rocca punt which got the played called back. Rocca punted again and it cost the Eagles about 20 yards.
Remember the special teams also got a kick blocked in the Carolina game by Julius Peppers. It’s a good thing it was a blow out.
Of course I have to mention the fumble by Ellis Hobbs at the start of the second half last week. He should have put two hands on the ball because he was stopped and should have anticipated a tackler coming from behind.
It led to a quick score by the Saints and that was the start of the end for the Birds.
DeSean Jackson also made a stupid play when he caught a punt on the two yard line and tried to return it.
Nearly every Eagles fan knows the rule that you stand on the ten yard line and don’t catch or return anything deeper than that point. Clearly Jackson broke the rule and was trying to do too much and that is another stupid play.
Earth to the Eagles special teams. Stop being stupid.
