For a decade the Eagles rebounded from losses like last week with a fury, confidence and consistency. But those Eagles teams were led by Andy Reid, Donovan McNabb, Brian Dawkins and Jim Johnson.
They were the four constants throughout the decade. Criticize them if you may but you’re talking a team that won more games than 29 NFL organizations and less than two, the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts, during the past decade.
No they don’t have any Super Bowl rings but they all showed the character and intestinal fortitude to answer the bell and their critics by rebounding from bad losses again and again.
You’re not going to survive here in the Philadelphia and in the NFC East without a tremendous amount of courage.
I don’t care what coaches and players say during interviews because that can be practiced and faked. I care about what those people do on the field.
This is not a beauty contest. It’s time to step up.
Last week was a bad loss for this football team. No you don’t understand last week was a very bad loss. You probably wonder why I say it was so bad.
It was very bad because the same New Orleans Saints team that beat the Eagles 48-22, had only been able to beat the Detroit Lions team, 45-27.
This Lions squad hasn’t won since the 2007 season and was being quarterbacked by a rookie in his first game. The Lions live in the bottom of the NFL basement.
Maybe that doesn’t mean anything to you but to me it means this Eagles team played like a basement level team. What will we see this week out of these guys?
In the past Reid has been able to develop a game plan to attack the defense’s weaknesses. Will he be able to find a way to help this offense get into the endzone in the first half, so we won’t be holding our breaths in the second half?
Will young quarterback Kevin Kolb throw interceptions and miss receivers when the game is on the line?
Will Quintin Mikell and the Eagles defense let teams into the end zone every time they get into the red zone?
Will Sean McDermott be a step or two late in adjusting to the attack that the Chiefs are implementing?
We will find out fairly quickly about the insides of these new Eagles leaders because Kansas City is a bad football team and should be pounced on immediately.
If the Birds are fighting for their lives in the second half, it doesn’t say much for Birds future.
