As I listened to Brian Westbrook talk today about wanting the ball more, all I could think about was his ailing ankle which has been prohibiting him from running like he has in the past.
I know he wants the ball but getting the ball isn’t all of the answer. Doing something with it when you get it is important as well. The truth of matter is that BWest hasn’t been all that impressive when he has touched the ball.
Remember the Westbrook ran the ball six times versus Tampa and gained a paltry 18 yards.
It’s true the offensive line hasn’t been creating many holes of Westbrook to run through but BWest needs to get healthy to really do something with those holes.
Maybe he’ll be there this Sunday but the guy that we saw last week against the Bucs was not close enough to 100% to impress me.
If he does get close to 100% in a few weeks I don’t have a problem with what has happened in these opening weeks. His health problems have allowed the Eagles to deepen their backfield by giving LeSean McCoy plenty of experience.
Still, let’s not fool ourselves, Westbrook’s health is the number one, two, three and fourth issue with Westbrook. Getting the ball enough is important to him but it’s not really the most important thing to the football team right now.
If he’s healthy, he’s going make everybody else on the offense better. He will give them a running game that team will be forced to honor.
They need to him to be healthy for the tough teams on the schedule like the Giants, Falcons and etc.
