DeSean Says The Coverages Were A Sign Of Respect

Jackson on the runIf DeSean Jackson had been interviewed immediately after the Bucs game, there’s no telling what he would have said.

It might have been something that would have garnered the headlines.

Chances are it would have been much different than what he had to say today at the Nova Care Complex.

On Sunday he came off the field with fire in eyes.  He had caught only one pass for one yard after having had 100 yard games in both of the two contests prior to Sunday’s.

The guy on the other side, rookie Jeremy Maclin, had six catches for 142 yards and two touchdowns.

Jackson wasn’t interviewed by media members on Sunday because he dressed promptly after the game and left before talking to anybody in the media.

This is really an infraction against the NFL rules but in hindsight it was probably a good move by the second year receiver.

Today Jackson said the double coverage and attention he received from Tampa Bay was something he’ll have to deal with, but he hopes the success that Maclin had will force teams balance their coverages.

Jackson with the ball on the run“It shows respect,” Jackson said. “But it’s something that I can’t control. Whatever defenses need to do, that’s what they do. As an offense our job is to go out there and make plays and score touchdowns, and we were still able to do that.”

Donovan McNabb talked about how the Bucs tried to take away Jackson which opened things up for Jeremy Maclin.

McNabb played down Sunday’s success of this year’s first round draft pick and said he wants Maclin to be given the opportunity to blossom without being overhyped because of one or two performances.

The youngster is taking his outstanding performance in stride.

“With the guys that we have, games like that are going to come, going to rotate between guys,” Maclin said. “The way this offense is, anybody can catch the ball on any given play. Yeah, you have a number one read, but anybody can catch a ball. You have to always be on alert.

“I think the win is more important than people catching a lot of balls or getting a lot of yards.”

McNabb said he takes pride in spreading the ball around to all of the receivers, so there are going to be days when one guy has a big day and other games when that particular receiver doesn’t.  It all depends on how their offense is defended and what is the situation in the game..

He said he was disappointed for DeSean last week because he only caught one pass for one touchdown.  He wants to keep everybody involved.
