Today Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said teams had been avoiding trying to throw the ball in the direction of Raiders All-Pro cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha.
Despite the fact that the Raiders are terrible, it’s accepted around the league that Asomugha may be the best cornerback in football and Mornhinweg didn’t mince words about him.
“He’s a heck of a cover man. He’s big, fast, quick, mobile, agile. He’s a fantastic player. [I] played against him in the Pro Bowl this past season, so [I] got to look at him there as well as on film of course, this year. He’s really a fine, fine player. Like I said, he’s big and then he has the skills and he’s very, very good. He has a good feel of the game as well.”
This young man has it all. He’s big enough to hold up receivers at the line of scrimmage then he also can run with them. His quickness is outstanding and he has great ball skills. The bottomline is that it’s smart to avoid this guy when you consider how bad the Raiders are every where else.
When asked if he had ever coached his quarterbacks to not the throw the ball in direction of a certain cornerback he said yes, Deion Sanders.
He started talking about something else when asked whether he would have Donovan McNabb avoid Asomugha.
So I see the Eagles throwing the football a lot on Sunday but I don’t see them throwing Asomugha.
