I don’t know if they were expecting it but last week the Eagles got an immediate return from young defensive tackle Antonio Dixon.
On a number of key plays in the Tampa game, Dixon dominated Bucs center, Sean Mahan and helped the Birds win the football game.
They claimed him off of waivers when he was sent packing by the Washington Redskins after training camp. He was placed on the team’s practice squad until being activiated this week before the Tampa game.
I didn’t know what to expect from the kids but I noticed him in the game. I saw the big fella, number sixty-four, push the Buccaneers center into the offensive backfield and I understood immediately why the Birds activated him.
On one play quarterback Josh Johnson fumbled and Dixon was in the middle of the wall the Eagles formed to stop them.
On another play running back Cadillac Williams lost yardage. On yet another, Bucs running back Derrick Ward was caught in the backfield.
The mammoth DT from the University of Miami did an outstanding job of dominating the line of scrimmage this past week versus the Tampa Bay Bucs.
They’re going to need him down the road when they take on all these power running teams like the Redskins, Falcons, Cowboys and Giants.
Dixon will be teamed with recently-signed veteran linebacker Jeremiah Trotter to give the Birds their run stopping inside duo.
