Reid: Looking Back, We Could Have Run It More

Reid on the sidelineYou’ve heard what Andy Reid had to say about the pass-run disparity before.  48 called passes and 14 called runs.

The Eagles coaches got wrapped up into their brilliant game plan and never fully adjusted to what the Raiders were employing in the way of defensive schemes.

I’m always quick to give Andy Reid and Marty Mornhinweg credit for their game plans but they continue to be weak in making in game adjustments.

“We felt like if we could protect we would have a pretty good chance downfield”, Reid said. “That’s what we thought.  We had a little big penetration at times when we didn’t the throws were long or the routes were off a little bit.  That’s something we thought we could take advantage of.”

Reid said he wasn’t pointing any fingers but clearly the offense was the biggest culprit in this loss because the defense only allowed 13 points.

The offensive line was awful and when they weren’t Donovan McNabb missed some open receivers, some of the receivers ran some wrong routes and they also dropped some passes.

There’s no way the Eagles offense should have allowed the Raiders to hold them to only 9 points.

Why can’t Reid go out and get an assistant coach who is strong in making in game adjustments?

Why doesn’t Donovan or Westbrook go to Reid and say we’ve got to change the game plan because they’re not doing what we thought they were doing?

There’s no such thing as a coach who is strong in every area, so they need to go out and get someone who is strong in making adjustments.

I know that six-hour flight from Oakland was a tough one for both the players and the coaches.  They had plenty of time to think over the multitude of mistakes they made in the game.

This has happened far too many times.
