“To tell you that we know exactly what they’re going to be at this point, they know that they’ve got to step up their game and they’re looking forward to it, but the work ethic is there. They want to be great players and we’ve seen it out of them”. This is what Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman told Philly.com’s Jeff McLane in talking about Brandon Graham and Nate Allen.
The truth of the matter is that he could be very well bd talking about himself and his entire scouting staff. Right now as onlooker, couldn’t you say we don’t know exactly what Roseman and his scouting staff are going to be at this point. We could say that the GM and his scouts need to step up their game.
As for the work ethic, It doesn’t matter if it’s there or not because if they keep drafting the wrong players, then it’s time for them all to go.
The guys up 95 in North Jersey have won another Super Bowl title and the drafting of General Manager Jerry Reese has been a big part of it.
In the first title run, they had rookies all over the place making contributions. Remember the rookie years of wide receiver Steve Smith, tight end Kevin Boss, running back Ahmad Bradshaw, cornerback Aaron Ross, and long snapper Zak DeOssie.
Smith and Boss are no longer on the ball club, but the Giants continue without missing a beat. A lot of the credit has to go to Reese, the guy making the decisions on New York’s players.
Here’s the future excuses by Rosebud for 2013 after another failed season….
“We came close but Juan have shown with one more season he can be respectable defensive coordinator.”
“Brandon Graham showed flashes of why the Eagles moved up to grab him, but his injury did set him back which had him hit the proverbial rookie wall a year late, and we’ll expect him to be at his draft time strength next season without favoring that reconstructed knee.”
“Nate Allen is still up and down but is getting more comfortable in Juan’s scheme. He’ll need one more season to prove he was worth the Eagles grabbing him in the 2nd round.”
Time’s Your’s”
G, this article should be null and void because you mentioned a longsnapper.
hallelujah G Cobb — couldn’t have said it better myself —- Great story but be prepared Navy and Trufan and Schiller will attack you now
G- Good stuff buddy.
Songs – right on man; I actually had flashbacks of past “failed season” front office interviews. You couldn’t have said it any better.
article from CSnphilly had some interesting facts in it:
“The Eagles have drafted 31 consecutive defensive players who have yet to make a Pro Bowl, and they’ve selected 15 consecutive defensive players in the first three rounds who haven’t made a Pro Bowl. Only two of those 15 – Mike Patterson and Nate Allen – project as starters in 2012.”
“the fact remains: The Eagles have not drafted a stud defensive player since two months after they played in the Super Bowl. And some of their premium picks have not only failed to become stars, they’ve barely registered a blip on an Eagles defense that could use some big-time playmakers.”
Again, I don’t think anyone is asking for perfection here. Your not going to draft a stud on D every year or even every 2 years. But to go this long without hitting on just one game changer on defense is truly sad, pathetic, and disheartening for Eagles fans everywhere.
Adam Schifter reports
Eagles are open to listening to trade offers for free agent wide receiver DeSean Jackson, who is expected to be franchised.
Its so many wideouts that are free agents, they won’t get much for Desean.
I see D-Jax ending up on 1 of 5 Teams …
(I do not believe he ever takes the field again as a Philadelphia Eagle)
#1) Patriots — (Exhange for the #31st Overall pick since Pats have 2 1st Rd)
#2) Rams — their 2nd Round Pick (#34 Overall)
#3) 49ers — A Player (Safety Donte Whitner) plus their 2nd Round
#4) Jagaurs — A Player (Safety Dwan Landry) plus their 2nd Round
#5) Cardinals – A Player (OLB O’Brien Schofield) plus a 2nd Round Pick
paulman if Cleveland lands RG3 for their 2 number ones —- DJax would look good playing long ball with him for their 2nd round pick
You can’t get better, when you’re incompetent & incapable of doing your job. He has never played the sport, & has ZERO qualifications for the gift job that he was given. He is an armchair GM, that is playing fantasy football. Does anyone else think he would even have his position, if he wasn’t boys with wood teeth Banner, & light in the loafers Lurie? If you know what I mean?
Browns have Joshua Cribbs as a deep threat and young WR Greg Little & Mike Massaquoi.. but your right, RG III is an excellent Deep Passer and I think if D-Jax is going to agree to a deal, it will be to a team out west for that where he wants to go unless its a Championship tyope team
I think the Patriots will most likely re-sign Wes Welker and then sign free-agent Brandon Lloyd who had a ton of succes in Denver under Josh McDaniels who is now the new OC for the Patriots, plus signing Brandon Lloyd is chump change compared to D-Jax or other big name WR’s…
DCar — everyone knows why he is the GM — his salary is cheap and wears the same little hat as Joe and Jeff which is fine but his results are awful –his only 2 good moves were Mathis and Babin —– he lucked into Mathis when his real big OL move was Ryan Harris and he let Babin walk only to be forced by Jim Washburn to bring him back at a massive pay raise – not exactly a great GM move
Jenkins was a good move too, but I agree with you eagles0. It’s a damn shame, but it is reality, whether anyone likes it or not, or believes it or not.
Here’s the problem with people giving Roseman any credit for signing ANY of the free agents last year. Every single one of them looked right through Roseman and decided they wanted to play for or with Mike Vick, Tim Washburn or Howard Mudd or Andy Reid.
Did Roseman pull a Lovey Smith and fly to where any of these players were take them out to breakfast and then fly them back to Philly for contract negotiations? That’s the only way he would get credit. It comes down to his acumen in drafting and he’s the Boss, but somehow given the pass to learn on the job from the people working for him. What kind of craziness is that? (Yeah, I know…it’s far too commonly occurring in a lot or workplaces and definitely OT)
Butch, didn’t roseman work in the front office for many years before becoming gm? What is the alternative to learning on the job?
