The Eagles defense didn’t play well today. The Chargers had the worst running game in the NFL, yet they ran for 119 yards against the Birds.
They were gashed by Ladanian Tomlinson and San Diego. Early in the game, Tomlinson went up the middle for three yards and didn’t get hit until he was in the endzone, then he went in from 20 yards out and was untouched. Yes I’ll say it again he was untouched.
First the defensive tackles were blocked, then the linebackers were locked up and the defensive backs watched him go into the endzone as they were screened off by the Chargers wide receivers.
It looked like a practice play where the defense is letting the offense run their play.
The Eagles couldn’t run for a single yard but here you’ve got a guy like Tomlinson, who is over the hill and on the worst running offense in the league, but he goes into the endzone twice and wasn’t even touched.
How do you allow Tomlinson to run for 94 yards on 24 carries.
The defense came onto the field with seven minutes on the clock and needing a stop desperately. The team had closed the gap to five points and were on the verge of making a terrific comeback.
They let Tomlinson run the ball on that drive and they still haven’t covered Chargers tight end Antonio Gates.
I don’t think either of the Eagles defensive tackles played well. I know Mike Patterson was banged up coming into the game and for whatever reason Brodrick Bunkiley was getting pushed around as well.
Chris Gocong is not a middle linebacker. You can block a good player but he doesn’t stay blocked. He fights off of blockers and gets off the blocks.
Gocong was getting blocked all day long.
I really don’t blame Gocong for the poor play because he doesn’t belong in there.
Here you have a team with two other middle linebackers, Jeremiah Trotter and Joe Mays, on the roster but you don’t want to put them in the game.
If they’re not ready to play now with all injuries at the linebacker position, then they don’t belong on the roster.
If they’re not going to play now, then when are they ever going to play.
