I don’t want to see Brian Westbrook in uniform and out there on the football field in a competitive situation again.
I think it’s over for him as a NFL player and I don’t want to see him get battered the way so many great athletes like Muhammad Ali did.
It’s not worth it. I listened to all those questions about concussions symptoms today at Andy Reid’s news conference and I’ve heard enough.
Brian Westbrook shouldn’t be allowed to get back out there and run the risk of having some real damage done to him.
Just last Sunday night when the Eagles were beaten by the Cowboys, I ran into Westbrook’s mom and talked to her for awhile. I had interviewed her a number of years ago for CBS-3 television and we always talked when we run into each other at the games.
I could see her eyes showed that she had been worrying about her son as well she should be. In fact she was really worried about both of her sons.
She told me about the tough night that she had in Washington when both of her sons, Brian and Byron, were each injured in the Redskins-Eagles game.
I liked and agreed with what Andy Reid had to say today when he talked about this not being about football. Concussions can be life altering in a negative way.
Football is great but it’s not nearly as important as how Brian will live the rest of his life. You know his mom was thinking about Brian Westbrook the person and not the football player because she was caring about him long before he ever picked up a football.
I think he should be shut down.
I want to see Brian twenty years from now in his right mind and functioning like the bright and personable young man that he is right now.
