Andy Reid Admits To Making Mistakes With The Eagles 2011 Defense

You’ve got to give Andy Reid credit for accepting the responsibility for the pathetic run defense which  the Birds started the season with a year ago.  They made rookie fourth round pick Casey Matthews the starting middle linebacker in their new “Wide-Nine” scheme.  It was a mistake and Reid admitted to it earlier today.

“We had young guys there, and so I knew that going in,” Reid said at the NFL owners meetings. “The plan that I had I didn’t execute it very well. Right? That’s my responsibility. I goofed on that one, right? I expected the young guys on defense to get where they’re getting by the end of the season sooner, particularly the middle of the defense — linebackers and safeties.

“I expected the offense to carry it through. So that part didn’t take place. But to tell you, yeah, your linebackers — the more gaps you open up, the more physical they have to be. That’s how it is.”

Reid usually is willing to go to any lengths in order to avoid criticizing his players in the public.

So in other words he’s gotta do a better job then that?

Did he go back and look at the tape?

If the GM knew what he was doing last year the proper moves woulda been made to help the d..i.e. sign Tulloch.

Heres a valid question….if Wash had any guts then why didnt he go to Andy and say the rook isnt gonna get it done behind this line…the pieces arent right?

Dont give me hes the d-line coach….he’s been coaching the d-line for years and saw how good Bullick was in that scheme and shoulda used that knowledge to help Andy make a better decision.

It’s in the past and i think they’ve gotten it half right so far with Ryans. But thats my take on that whole issue.

Only Andy says “i goofed”…..

It looks as if 2 time Super Bowl winning Brandon Jacobs is on his way to winning a noter Superbowl wit a winning organization.

some organizations just know how to get in position to win it all, even if it’s starting from scratch.

Both of the Harbaugh’s are better coaches than Andy Reid.

FOR ALL THE “REID BALLSUCKERS”

Reid: I ‘goofed’ at linebacker and safety last season

“We had young guys there, and so I knew that going in,” Reid said Wednesday at the NFL Annual Meeting. “The plan that I had, I didn’t execute it very well.

THIS ARTICLE IS PER NFL.COM.

NOW: Would a Belicheck or any SB bound team “GOOF” Tis big knowing he’s going into a season. EVERY EAGLE FAN KNEW WE NEEDED A LB EXCEPT THE BIG “GOOF” OF A COACH. WWE NEED A KICK ASS COACH TO RUN THIS TEAM.

Andy..you goofed?

Now tell us something we didn’t know before preseason.

Look at the posts from last offseason. Everyone here was hollering for safety and linebacker help!!!!!

But Blindspot Andy have a 2 year minimum blindspot quota……and after this losing season we’ll finally address the Safety position.

I wish for once we can stop waiting on these bums we’ve drafted.

What makes anyone believe Nate Allen will be as good as he was after tearing up his knee?

He was getting toasted and ran over before the surgery.and mad Britt look like the best receiver to ever be drafted.

The Safety position will be our down fall again. Paste it!

And don’t answer by telling me what he should have done for those positions before the season, that’s not the question I’m asking.

“What response would you have approved of? I’m at a loss, but help me out. What would you have liked him to say when that reporter asked him that question.”

What he should have done before his last contract extension. He should apologize to the fans of the Eagles for his know-it-all attitude, his purposely putting this team in a position to lose consistently in NFC Championship games and his miniscule vocabulary when it comes to explaining what really happened in the game during a press conference.

Tendering his resignation immediately is the only apology needed.

Simple enough for you Schiller.

Much to do about nothing.. What Coach of any team after looking back at a disappointing season going to say.. It’s the same thing we all have toalked about for the last 7 months, Cut The Turnovers down, Catch the Damn Ball, Tackle Better and Vick stay healthy while adding some LB,SS and having the Defense Creat more turnovers… You can say this for about 31 of the 32 Teams in the NFL

pheags88
pheags88
March 28, 2012 6:03 pm

Kachtice summed it up pretty easy for you as if you asked us some kind of mind blowing question which requires some significant amount of thinking.

You could probably add something to that like “As you can see, I threw away the last season before it even started with my ridiculous decision making. Everyone pretty much knew we needed better Lbs and S to have a real shot at winning a SB last year, except me obviously which is pathetic bc I am the HC. I also have done this on many other occasions, not just when it comes to LB and Safety, but just like when i refused to address obvious positions of need when we needed a WR against the PAnthers and Bucs in NFC Champ games. I mean I really fucked up by thinking that I was going to win a SB with Thrash, Pinkston, and FReddie all those years etc” I duno something like that would have been much more pleasing than just saying I goofed.

BUt honestly the best answer he could have gave after last season’s “goof” is to just simply step down as HC since he has shown he is not capable of winning a SB in more than reasonable amount of time. LAst time I checked Andy Reid is far from being considered a football God. Give someone else a chance to get us that ring.

Paulman, not nec. true man…I don’t know how many of the other coaches in the NFL would have turned an O-line coach to DC when they have never had any experience at the job (which im pretty sure has never happened in the history of the NFL existence)…or start a 4th round rookie play out of position as MLB…And all this in a shortened offseason. Again, I don’t think ANY coaches in the NFL would have goofed like this…at least let alone still have a job after it blew up in their face.

Hey fellas if I goof like that at my job I will probably get fired. This article really bothers me. I am really starting to think, we as fans our ahead of this coach and coaching staff on the teams needs. I mean for years we needed receiver’s, the fan base knew this and the team did nothing until late in Mcnabb’s career. Most of Mcnabb’s prime years he was working with garbage it cost the team superbowl chances. Now linebackers, it’s just frustrating. Sometimes I just wonder what do they look at that with players that’s all. I mean dam sitting at home on the couch I can tell when a player just can’t play. But they will play a guy who is a bum the whole dam season and then say I GOOFED.

compliments of my man lone wolf……….

He goofed for 7 years by not acquiring top-flight receivers (despite throwing more than even Air Coryell), wasting entire careers in the process?

He goofed by refusing to continue running the ball against Carolina in the 2004 Championship game, despite Runyan’s pleas and the fact that they were gaining chunks of yards?

He goofed by refusing to run Buckhalter game after game, despite the fact that he was averaging more than 6 yards per carry?

He goofed by refusing to play rookies (that is, until the Giants won a SB playing as many as 8 rookies)

He goofed by wasting the entire 2007 season because he had no punt returner?

He goofed by not handling the T.O. situation. Then goofed again, by returning to mediocre receivers, despite making it to the SB with a top-flight receiver.

He goofed by throwing too many passes despite down, distance, field location, injury, etc. Who repeatedly throws 50 passes when his QB has a broken ankle, painful sports hernia, broken ribs, etc?

He goofed by promoting his offensive line coach to defensive coordinator (during an all-in year)?

He goofed by refusing to run McCoy in the red zone for the first 10 games in 2011?

He goofed by being so predictable that in 2011, the Patriots didn’t bother to play a goal-line defense inside the 5-yard line because they knew Reid would pass? And how many teams have bragged that they knew “exactly” which play Reid would run at certain times during a game?

pdiddy – From where I’m sitting Andy has been ‘on the hot seat’ just as much as Coughlin. “on the hot seat” is mostly media generated anyway. Unless you have direct access to the Eagles and Giants’ front offices (I sure as hell don’t), then I don’t think either of us have a good sense of when a coach is really in danger of being fired.

March 28, 2012 10:30 pm

pdiddy – that’s a fair and good question in my opinion. First of all, I do think that Harbaugh is a good coach. And his personality/attitude sure fit that 49ers team – I suspect you’ll agree so far. BUT I do not think that there has to be a concrete personnel change for a significant results change to occur. I don’t think it has to be cause and effect in the NFL. They played different opponents. The mostly young defense had even mored time to jell. They also got one of the more healthy seasons in recent time out of Frank Gore, and rookie back Hunter was a nice kick to them. So that’s my answer – you may think more simply – that there’s direct major reason that has to be a change, for a change in results to occur. But personally, I think it’s more complicated and dynamic than that.

Kachtice

March 28, 2012 10:45 pm

Schiller, your moronic rant was answered. Just because you decide the Reidtard can do no wrong doesn’t equate to his being the right coach for the future of my team. The longer Patriots fan Lurie coddles his enormous ego the longer it will take for the Eagles to find a Coach who can actually think his way through sixty minutes of football. Once again mental midget (sorry, little person), the actual fans of the Eagles have had enough of his holier-then-thou attitude and his inability to think beyond his fifteen or so plays he scripts before a game. Time to find someone who actually has a football I.Q. to run this team.

Pdiddy, Lurie doesn’t have the same attachment to the Eagles as the Mara’s and Tisch have with the Giants, hence the four Lombardi trophies in their trophy case. For Lurie it’s about profits first.

I asked for an alternative verbal response from Reid, and specifically not what he could have done different as a coach last year – which I repeat is NOT a verbal response. You then answered with what he could’ve done differently, and subsequently your take on him as a coach overall, how good of a coach he is, what the team should/should’ve done.

Got to give Andy Reid Credit????

Are you Joking????

You give Andy Reid credit when he admits the mistake last year when there was a chance to correct it. Ray Charles, Roy Orbison, and Stevie Wonder saw that it was a mistake to put the rookie in there. And he’s just now comming around to admitting it.

His foot should have been so far up Juan’s rear, that Juan was chewing on the shoe laces.

His delay cost us a playoff spot. He and Jeffery Loser should sell the team to Magic Johnson. Or bring in Bill Parcels like the Saints are trying.

Anything, but another year of “I’ve got to do a better job of putting the players in a better position to win” or “I’m happy with the people we have playing MLB, WR, OT, KR or fill in the blank.

I blame Andy Reid for the Flyers and Sixers not winning a championship also.

Just him being in the same city is a curse.

As for the Phillies, they were supposed to win 4 championships with that pitching staff, and Andy’s bad Karma pulled them down to 1.
