Akers Is The One Advantage The Birds Have Over Saints

Akers after key kick David Akers has been selected as the NFC Special Teams Player of the Month.

I haven’t been making a big deal of it but David Akers has been taking no prisoners in his kicking for most of the year.  His kicking was key in the win over the Redskins and the victory over the Bears.

Here are some impressive stats to show that he deserved this award.

  • Akers converted all 13 of his field-goal attempts and scored 50 points, both tops in the NFL.
  • Four of his 13 field goals were from at least 40 yards, including a season-long 52-yarder in Week 9 versus Dallas.  He also had the game-winning field goal with 1:48 remaining in Week 12 against Washington.
  • This month, Akers kicked at least one field goal in all five games and had three games with three-or-more FGs.
  • Akers leads the NFL with 101 points scored and 24 field goals.
  • In his 11th season from Louisville, this is Akers‚Äô third career Player of the Month Award.  He was honored in November 2000 and October 2007.  He joins RANDALL CUNNINGHAM (4) and DONOVAN MC NABB (4) as the only Eagles to be honored at least three times.

Akers kicking the winning FG I see one hole in the undefeated New Orleans Saints invincability and it’s their field goal kicker, John Carney.   He’s been terrible every time I’ve seen himand they’ll be in trouble if they get in a close game.

Right now, the Eagles have one advantage over the Saints and it’s Akers over Carney.
