Andy Reid and Marty Morn- hinweg were at their best last night against the Giants as they kept the New York defense off balanced and guessing what was coming next.
They used DeSean Jackson, Michael Vick, Leonard Weaver, Reggie Brown, Brent Celek and others to keep the sticks and the scoreboard moving.
A great example of their planning and playcalling came on the touchdown catch by DeSean Jackon on a deep crossing route.
The Eagles knew the Giants safeties were young and inexperienced.
So they eager to get them biting on a short route while they were in a two-deep zone coverage.
If they could one of them to bite, the other would be left one-on-one against Jackson with the entire field to protect.
The Birds lined up back up tight end Alex Smith on the leftside and sent him downfield on the leftside on a deep curl route and his main job was to get the attention of Giants safety Aaron Rouse.
Just like they had drawn it up, Rouse bit on the route like a fish who hadn’t eaten in a month. The pump fake that Donovan McNabb gave wasn’t for Ross, the safety who was trying to cover Jackson, the pump fake was for Rouse who was covering Smith.
Jackson released from his position on the right side of the formation and came flying deep across field. Ross found himself in a can’t win situation.
He was one-on-one versus Jackson and didn’t have the help of the other safety who wassupposed to be on the other side of the field. He had been sucked up on by the tight end.
They had run this same route against the Saints and Jackson had pulled in a long touchdown pass from Kevin Kolb.
