McDermott With Nice Game Plan For TE Davis

Davis runs with ball I liked the game plan that Eagles defensive coordinator Sean McDermott put together to stop Niners tight end Vernon Davis.

McDermott knew that Davis would be a big part of the Niners plans because of his talent and also because of the problems the Eagles have had stopping opposing tight ends.

He used rookie outside linebacker Moise Fokou to jam him and beat up on him as he tried to get a release from the line.

They put nickel back Joselio Hanson on him and many times they would have help coming from different areas.

Mikell interceptionOther times the Eagles put free agent defensive back Dmitri Patterson on Davis which meant having a smaller and quicker player covering him.

At other times, they played games with San Francisco quarterback Alex Smith by making it look like there was no one guarding their talented tight end.

Once the ball was snapped, Eagles defensive end Chris Clemons came off of the defensive line and trailed Davis underneath in his route.

Davis was headed downfield on a seam route.  He exploded out of his stance and looked back for the football because he too didn’t think anybody was covering him.

Smith put the ball up and out of nowhere from the other side came Eagles safety Quintin Mikell.

Mikell had been watching the entire situation and was headed that way with the knowledge that Smith probably wouldn’t see him.

Mikell made a great diving interception, which put the Eagles in position to score.
