Former Eagles Pro Bowl safety Brian Dawkins, who recently retired, was asked whether Eagles head coach Andy Reid should be on the hot seat.
“Yes, here’s the thing,” Dawkins said. “When you go out and you get some of the pieces that they got. That’s telling the fan base something. Even coming into this year … some of the things they’re doing this offseason, that’s telling the fan base something. You then have to show … what are you as a coach.”
“This is the year to me that says . . . If there was a chance for this team to go far, it should be this year. You should know your team, you should know who can do what,” Dawkins said.
Number 20 is telling it like it is. Reid has a very good roster. He had a big role in putting this roster together and therefore he should be held accountable. Dawkins is simply stating what everybody knows. Reid must win the Super Bowl or at least get deep in the playoffs to keep his job.

Pdiddy – that’s a good question. I was wondering too. But honestly, I don’t care if he’s unsigned until the night before training camp. As long as he’s signed on day one of training camp, there’s no harm to him or his development. That’s the bottom line for me. It’s a long way to training camp.

I find is a bit awkward that these comments are coming right after his number being retire in Philly. I dont think his comments were offensive but as a veteran you have to know that this type of stuff is gonna get blown up. No one truly knows if Andy is on the hot seat or not. No one said Andy must win this year for him to keep his job. I recall them saying the best chance they have at winning is with Andy as head coach. Not bringing in Gruden or Cower but Andy. I would not be shocked if Andy was the head coach here until 2015.
This site has always been more about the comments than the articles, so no real suprise.
Dawk is now doing more and more national media shows, so when he is asked a question it is tougher to “dodge” an answer. He really didn’t say anything objectionable, and nothing that would be news to Andy. This is an important year, and everyone on the team knows it.

I think Song can be over the top but he thinks the Safeties on this team is the weak spot and he’s right. The Safeties have a lot to prove this year. @navy…I didn’t hear the interview but I have read some of his comments. From what I read, it is no suprise that Owens and McNabb couldn’t get it together. There were too many self-interests involved and each probably had the feeling that they would be back in the SuperBowl again without the other.
Bottom line from that whole episode is that it takes an entire team to be able to go that far, no one individual can “will” a team there, it takes efforts and contributions from the 1st to the 53rd guy on the roster.
ESucks – fair enough bro – there have been several interviews with Bowles and Zordich that have been complimentary of how Allenis doing this year. I look at how well he played AFTER the New England game and how well he was playing before he got hurt as a rookie..
but I feel you on the ‘reporters’ on this site.. Allen if you look at his reports comingout of college was actaully considered to have CB like cover skills, but Songs can;t get over the one bad game rookie year – I even posted where he was actually in the running for NFL D rookie of the year for a while before he got hurt..
just for you: second-round pick who earned Defensive Rookie of the Month in the September (did you remember Allen earned this his first month as a pro?)
and lets be honest – we have 2 pro bowl CBs, we have the probably best DLine in the NFL – we just added a couple studs to the LB corp (Ryans and KEndricks) – saying Safety is the weak spot is like calling Megan Fox the ugly girl because she is standing next to Brooklyn Decker and Kate Upton!
GReen – solid article about how he tried to get both parties together.. he pretty much seems to blame both parties for the issues and says he just tried to help.. then he kind of slides into TO and his issues. I like Dawkins articles. I think people try to read shit into them. He is just giving his opinion and being realistic – the eagles have assembled a solid roster (guess that kind of flies in the face of how they can;t draft, the personel department sucks, and Roseman has no football pedigree) and the expectations of all are very high.. nothing wrong with some solid optimism in June

To be perfectly honest I’m sick of Dawkins, not taking away from anything that he did on the field, we all know he’s one of a kind, however the fact still remains Dawkins didn’t win a championship game either. Just like Mike he’s only one man can’t do it by himself. Just like GCobb, they both complain about what players/coaches should and shouldn’t do, or tell players what to do in order to win the trophy, but when they were on the field they didn’t win one either. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. I could see it if either had won, fact is they didn’t.

I love this site for the forum it provides. I am glad Garry created it and I appreciate it. But I do think it’s a side project for him in which he invests little effort and really puts out a gives a C- product at best save for the discussion boards which are automatically built into his website via a wordpress application.
If the Eagles were smart they would have gave Dawk a one year deal and have him retire after the season……His passion alone would help get this defense together and he was making plays for years after he left and went to Denver.

So in your scenario if the Eagles had “gave Dawk a one year deal” – he wouldn’t have taken it you knucklehead. Teams don’t “GIVE” players deals. Deals are negotiated. Two parties have to agree to them.
Songs, the Dawkins ride was an amazing one. We all loved it and we all wish it could have gone on longer. But you sir are letting that passion we all have for Brian Dawkins the football player make you delusional.
@bmsvideos, fact is Dawkins is not like any other fan, he’s an ex-Eagles player who didn’t win the championship, but yet complains about this team/coaches. I’m not trying to minimize what he did on the field but, simply saying he didn’t win either, but yet can tell the player who are playing now what they should and shouldn’t do. I’m just curious as to what his excuse is. Whether you know it or not, this is not the first time he has done that. The same thing applies to GCobb.
