Notes From Phillies’ 7-6 Win Over Milwaukee

The Phillies won their third straight game on Tuesday night, rallying to defeat the Brewers 7-6. The win puts the Phils 10 games below .500, 14 games back in the division, and 9.5 games out of the Wild Card.

  • The first two games in this series have been almost identical. The Phillies have an ace turn in a poor six-run performance on the mound, only to put on a late rally to steal the show.
  • Cliff Lee started strong, but finished poorly. The lefty allowed three runs over his first seven innings, but imploded in the eighth inning, allowing three runs in that inning alone while failing to record a single out. He allowed 12 hits on night, and gave up a home run to opposing pitcher Zach Grienke.
  • Michael Schwimer has quietly showing signs of improvement. He tossed another scoreless inning tonight, giving him nine scoreless efforts in his last 10 appearances.
  • The six-run eight inning rally got underway with a pinch-hit two-run home run from backup catcher Erik Kratz. The Phillies then coaxed three consecutive walks to set the stage for Carlos Ruiz to drill a three-run double (his 26th of the season). Hunter Pence then came through with a single to score Ruiz and give the Phils the lead.
  • The Phillies were fortunate that Zach Grienke only had seven innings in him tonight. While he was in the game, they couldn’t generate any offensive pressure, managing just one run on three hits.
  • It was good to see Jonathan Papelbon shake off a couple of rocky outings with a clean ninth inning. He had allowed six runs in his previous two appearances.
  • The Phillies are now less than 10 games out of the Wild Card. Is there still a run left in this team?

***News just in***
Ken Rosenthal, reporting that the Phils & Hamels are finalizing a 6 year, $138M contract. Should be done by days end. Also Lee, Victorino & Polanco, on their way out. Possibly even Pence. That’s alot of news, from a Great baseball inside man, with googles of sources. Great re-sign, & let’s hope, dumb@$$ Amaro, get’s good deals for the others.

dcar, you announce that amaro is getting cole signed and then call him a dumbass…. You talk about homers ball size and he is left with any empty cupboard, overpaid for an aging star who is a huge salary cap hit and his career is probably over i say he and Ruben are the same guy… They make huge splashes, they swing for the fence and try to get their team in position to win. Obviously they have both had regular season success but neither have won the big prize…. I for one like their style

Cliff lee isn’t going anywhere!!! It’s a fact if a sp goes it will probably the pitcher formerly known as doc now known as Roy.

Any idiots still wanna say Howard is worthless and has to go?

mhenski – I agree with you ..

Can’t stand when people bash Howard. The people that bash Howard, are the ones who are missing what a guy like that brings to your team. 35 hr and 110 RBI is pretty hard to come by. He will strike out, he will aggervate at times, but he mashes.

I’m up in the air with trading Lee. The phils seem to have traded anyone in the minors close to helping. So maybe you do it? I dont know honestly.

What is up with Doc? did he just hit thta wall? He was a beast last year and this year he looks more like kyle kendrick

Potential Blockbuster Deal being discussed in Texas

Proposed Deal would send LHP Cliff Lee, CF Shane Victorino to the Texas Rangers for OF Josh Hamilton who has fallen out of facor with Pres Nolan Ryan and will not be re-signed by them making him basically a lame-duck player on a Championship Contending Team… Talk about High-risk, High reward with Hamilton.. Cliff Lee is discussing with his Family and will say yay or nay by Friday per reports..

Where have you read this report Paul?

I say that trade with Texas has 0% chance of going down. Why would the Phil’s trade for a rental player which Hamilton is if they have 0% shot at te playoffs? Why would Texas trade this stud Hamilton when they are in the thick of the playoff hunt and will need Hamilton ? I don’t think Texas would trade Hamilton because of a little cold spell.

honestly IF that blockbuster were real, and it probably isnt.. texas would have to give another player. Hamilton is a FA next year, so I would imagine they would throw in an A ball pitcher, and try to work on bringing mike olt here if they were dealing with the rangers. He has more value to the phillies than 3 months of josh hamilton.

Paul, puff, puff, pass! havenoclue, he had no choice to re-sign Hamels. It would have been a PR nightmare, & would have set back the rotation 5 years. Don’t give him any medals. If he would have seriously negotiated in the off-season, instead of laughably offering him a 5 year $85M, he wouldn’t of had to overpay him now, the last minute. Now because we are tipping across the luxury tax, we have to trade either Lee, or Halladay, along with Victorino, Blanton, Polanco, etc., if we want to field any kind of younger, talented, contending team, going forward. We are the oldest team in MLB. Our nucleus is in decline. We will have ongoing health concerns with Halladay. Worley will need off-season surgery, so he is a??? Pence will get at least $14M- $15M in arbitration. We will need a LF, CF, 3B & an entire BP! In NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM, can they field, nor improve this team, if they are paying 8 players (Lee, Hamels, Halladay, Howard- $20M+ Papelbon, Pence, Utley- $15M+ & Rollins $11M). I’m not exactly confident in Amaro getting good young players. He likes to overspend for veterans, to win now, & all of his successes were no brainers, that any GM, with the financial backing he has been given, could do. SO AGAIN, GET YOUR LIPS OUT OF AMARO’S @$$, & STOP NITPICKING EVERYTHING I COMMENT ON! I LOVE THIS SIGNING! AGAIN, IF YOU DON’T LIKE WHAT I SAY, TOO BAD, & I DON’T GIVE A RATS @$$!!!!! IF THE TRUTH HURTS, IDGAF!!!!

havenoclue, you are a laughable @$$clown. How am I angry & stupid, you jack@$$, nitwit? I’m extremely happy with this move, & have stated nothing but facts & well thought out, moves. As for Homer being my ???? buddy, you are ill-advised & incorrect. He has whiffed more than Ray Charles with vertigo, this off-season, & hasn’t done a good job. He has made his share of blunders, but he is 10 times the GM, Amaro can hope to be. I show ZERO favortism, nor blind faith towards anyone. If someone warrants criticism, I will accordingly, whether your Amaro ball slurping @$$, likes it or not. Exactly where in any of my comments above, was I biased, or factually incorrect? Stop nitpicking me, & trying to make $#!t up, to make me out to be something I’m not, just to cover-up your own, delusional, irrational, pom-pom waving, blind faithful, inadequate, immature, puny brain!

havenoclue, once again, your idiocy & nonsensical comments, make an @$$ out of you. My comments over the years, have no bearing, on anything to do with the current topic. BTW, I’m not now, never was, nor ever will be STUPID! I’ve forgotten more, about EVERYTHING, than you could ever hope to attain, you know-nothing, troll! As I’ve stated numerous times, just because I’ve proven you wrong, called your bluffs, & have made an idiot out of you, OVER & OVER again, don’t hate on me & make futile attempts to make me look bad. Because you will never win! Go school yourself & get a life, because you only bury yourself further, foolish imbecile!

If Lee goes to the Rangers, it woudl be for Mike Olt, their stud 3B prospect. Dude is a perfect fit. I could see this deal happening if the Rangers don’t go after Greinke. This is gonna be a wiered week as they could find suitors for a lot of players on the roster including Lee, Polanco, Blanton, Pence, Pierre and Rollins.

Cue up Mhenski….
