Philly.com has an article on line today which questiions the legitimacy of Howard Eskin’s report about Brian Westbrook having a knee injury which could end his career.
Eskin made the report on NBC-10 on their late sports show Sunday night.
Howard cited sources who told him that Westbrook’s knee was seriously damaged and that he would probably end his career with the Birds as well as his NFL career.
He said Westbrook’s knee was bothering during the week leading up to the Cowboys game.
Eskin said Andy Reid was aware of the knee injury and didn’t use Westbrook because of it. Westbrook touched the ball only once in the Eagles-Cowboys playoff game.
There’s one very serious problem with this story. This injury wasn’t on the injury report and Westbrook didn’t look like he was having any problem running when he caught a screen pass and jetted 27 yards for a first down.
The Philly.com article suggests that maybe this is information that the Eagles want out there, so that they can encourage Westbrook to retire.
If he doesn’t retire then they have to let him go and it’s sure to create some bad blood since he’s such a popular player.
They could possibly be saying good-bye to both Westbrook and Donovan McNabb in the same off-season.
