Reid Family Statement Cites Garrett’s Eight-Year Battle With Addiction

Understandably, Eagles head coach Andy Reid wasn’t at practice on Sunday and he wasn’t there yesterday either because he’s spending time with his family.  Today is an off day for the team and later this morning coach Reid will bury his eldest son, Garrett.

Last night Reid and his family released a statement and in the statement Coach Reid talks about Garrett losing an eight-year battle (with drug addiction).

On behalf of Tammy and our family, I would like to thank everybody for their tremendous support, love, kind words and prayers during this time of great sadness. Words cannot express our sense of loss.

We loved Garrett so much. He was a wonderful son and brother. He made us laugh, he was a pleasure to be around, he always had a smile on his face, and we will miss him dearly. We will never forget him, and we will remember him with love.

Garrett’s road through life was not always an easy one. He faced tremendous personal challenges with bravery and spirit. As a family, we stood by him and were inspired as he worked to overcome those challenges. Even though he lost the battle that has been ongoing for the last eight years, we will always remember him as a fighter who had a huge, loving heart.

I spoke with the team yesterday and thanked them for their thoughts and prayers. I asked them to continue with their preparations for the upcoming season until I am ready to rejoin the team.

It is in times like these that we lean on our faith, our family, our friends, and our Eagles family. We will do so in the difficult times ahead.

Thank you again for your continued support.

I figured his son died from drugs he was a junkie. Sad story though, ive battled drug addiction no such thing as curing it,its a life long disease they always told us this ins rehab.Ive been in and out of trouble with the law and im just getting my life right, life can be a bitch sometimes. People dont realize how hard it is for someone that has a trouble past to stay on a straightened arrow, but its a struggle. Garretts problems is why Vick is our qb. Andy believed in second chances.

VICK IS OUR QB BECAUSE HE DISPLAYED THE TALENT ON THE FIELD AND DESERVED IT, SOME OTHER WOULD HAVE EVENTUALLY SIGNED HIM, AND HE WOULD HAVE PROVED HIS WORTH

Andy may have suspected something weeks beforehand, his wife & kids are on the west coast, Andy was going to training camp ( HE WASN’T LEAVING GARRETT ALONE IN THE HOUSE ) only andy knew for sure I have a feeling the cops already knew the deal before Howie Roseman’s press conference & the autopsy ( needle marks ?? the contents of Garretts car ?? or overnite video surveilence of the univ & parking lot ??)
