Michael Vick was honest yesterday when we asked him what happened on Sunday against Cleveland.
“There’s nothing you can change about it, it’s plenty of throws I wish I could have back”, Vick said.
“I think it’s decision-making, pressing, and not pressing as hard to try and make things happen when things aren’t going your way,” Vick said.
“I think I should go out and play my game within the system, and use my God given abilities whenever the time calls for it,” Vick said. “Just play and get back to having fun playing the game of football.”
He panicked last Sunday and abandoned all of his fundamentals. He was guessing and hoping something good was going to happen. Vick was putting too much pressure on himself and trying to do too much. If there’s nobody open, then there’s nobody open. If he’s being pressured and there’s nobody open, then that’s what happened. He’s got to be patient and believe that the offensive line is going to block and the receivers are going to get open.
If he drops back and has pressure in his face, he should consider abandoning the play. If he can use his speed to escape then he can take that option, but not if that’s going to require him taking a big chance with the football, then he shouldn’t do it. Abandon the play.
He’s got to play with the confidence that they’ll be enough times when he drops back, has time to throw and somebody is open. If he tries to press and make something out of nothing, then he’s going to be turning the ball over.
Vick didn’t say anything about staring down receivers. You’ve got to look one way and throw the other against zones. If you stare down a receiver, you’re bringing everybody to that area.
Like I posted over a week ago before G said it
Run the ball using all the backs –they have the talent
Then play action is very effective
Let Vick be Vick
With a running game with those 4 backs He will great
Did i just read that a 100$ million qb ‘lost his fundamentals’? did i really read that? did i read that he ‘panicked’– how can that breed confidence in anyone?
it was the woeful browns with 2 UNDRAFTED FA
Yes, you read GCobb say that Vick panicked, You read GCobb say Vick lost his fundamentals… You did not hear Vick, Nor Reid, Nor his opponents, Nor anyone else say this….
How good was GCobb when he played???
Lionsden, good enough to play LB, in the NFL for 11 years, & be 1 of the leaders, on some pretty good DF’s. Just because he is being honest about his assessment of the stiffs play, doesn’t warrant any personal attacks. Lions, with all due respect, what sport did you ever play? But you still have critiques & opinions though, right?!? Vick SUCKS! You, Realtalk & the other apologists, need to get over it. It doesn’t take a Rocket Scientist to see this. The dislike for him, has nothing to do with hate, jealousy, sour grapes, or race, it’s the fact of the matter, the he has QB’ed for 10 years, has learned ZERO, still is as stubborn, a stupid decision maker, & still is as overrated & a bum, as he always has been. Sorry to be so honest.
@DCar, keep my name out your mouth! what makes your opinion of Vick more accurate than mine…
The problem I have with you and all of the “vick hata’s” is this…
We all as Eagles fans, want the Eagles to win the SB…you think the QB can’t lead this team to that goal…I and some others still believe he can…As an Eagles fan, you should be hoping myself and others are right! its that simple!
I agree with you. I do hope your right, but facts & history show, it ain’t happening bruh! Hate to break the news to you. As for me keeping your name out of my mouth. It’s a discussion board, on a Philadelphia sports site, so if you want 1 sided conversation, & someone to agree with everything you say, you are a fan in the wrong city. Relax, stop being a keyboard gangsta, & don’t get your panties in a wad. We all want the same thing, but some of us choose to live in the Real world, not the land of make believe. Now that’s Real Talk, RealTalk. Have a good, safe weekend.
hahaha …..DCar you are right, I dont want a one side conversation…but the reason for my “keep my name out your mouth comments’ is cuz you did not come to me directly…honestly, I hardly ever read your posts, because its the same gibberish day in day out, way too much negativity. So if I hadn’t read your post, I wouldn’t of even known your talking about me…in fact you could have gotten your point across without mentioning my name…Where I’m from you talk directly to another man, not talk to another man about that man…nothing to do with trying to be “gangsta” .
But with you DCAR, I know you are a truly passionate fan, that will give credit due when credit is due, unlike a lot of these bias clowns on this site…so to you, have a good, safe weekend as well…
At least he has his own “God given abilities” to fall back upon.
Hope Vick has a great game.If he stinks though, the excuse will be he is still rusty and played a great Ravens D.
He should have a bounce back game againts the Ravens.I dont see how they handle the run pass threat after a emotionally tough game with the Bungals.Whom they always end up beating down.
Gcobb was a beast at the sam spot for the Birds.Instictive and fundamentally sound lb from what i remember.Only knock is that he went and played for the Cowboys.
I hope we get some articles on what the game plan should be Offensively and Defensively against the NEXT OPPONENT
At least thats what the blogs down in B-More are doing….just saying
Interesting story told by NFL sound FX:

Did anyone really expect that Vick was going to be real sharp in his 1st “Real Game” at full-speed after only taking 12 snaps in Pre-season.. I didn’t , I didn’t think he would be as bad as he was, but I wasn’t expecting much.. he needs to get his timing down and legs under him as game conditions are much different than tossing the ball on 7 vs 7 Passing drills.. I think many are making a little too much of out his poor performance last week and now with all the hoopla surrounded last week, his confidence has to be a little shaken which is never a godo thing for the Leader/QB to have..
Now this week, goes up against a Solid Team and Defense in Ravens.. (remember too that Browns were a Top #5 Defense last season so Defensivley, the Browns are not a bad team even though they lack “star” names who play for them)
If things get ugly this week, I expect Coach AR to make a change moving forward.. There is a sense of urgency to make moves that give his team the best chance to win and to win now (releasing Jarrett is another example, benching LT Bell was another) I would not be surprised to see Foles play a Series or 2 this week depending how the game is going..
browns had a bunch of undrafted FA’s playing D–
also vick has been bad for the last 20 games so…
More on what Vick had to say:
Shoutout to Lionsden’s point about GCobbs comments and the assumptions by so many of you…take special notice to the sentence beginning with “everybody”…shout out to “team love triangle” sup clowns….
“The thing is, nobody really has to motivate me because I motivate myself,” Vick said Wednesday. “I watch the film. I’m the one who lived it. everybody else just watched it from afar and is speculating about what they think. (The criticism) is just people going off what they see. I’m the one that’s got to deal with it and go out there and make it right.
I can’t dwell on what happened last game because I just don’t plan on having that type of ballgame again,” Vick said. “Regardless of what the situation dictates, I think you just have to go out there and play your game. Don’t get too frustrated; don’t get too high or two low. When things aren’t going your way, just keep pounding, keep plugging. That’s what this game is all about, and in the end coming out a winner.”
so he threw out a few cliches of his own? Unreal that is not news worthy nor does it say anything…. its just athlete speak on game week. duh
“don’t get too high or low’ original and insightful? ‘keep pounding and plugging”– he’s been a pro for 10 years he knows the lines! were giving him credit for cliches now? yikes! the bar is super low!
This guy above with made a comment that went unnoticed “no felon to win a SB”….I mean seriously, it’s pretty simple to determine his agenda…
For the fellas on here that had to read some of my comments yesterday, I apologize! I will keep refrain from getting into that immature back and forth type conversations from this day forward.
anyone have any predictions for this weeks, game(s)?
should be a good game tonight!
I, I, I, I, I, I, my god given talents, I, I, go out and play my game, I, I, I, just keep pounding, I, I, I, I
where was this after the Cleveland game?
“What we need to talk about was the defence. I owe them all a dinner. They were amazing. DRC and Coleman with 2 each, the DL, the LBs holding Richardson to nothing. I was terrible (he did say this), and without those guys, we would have been suck. So really, all I’m going to do after the game is head into the locker room and make sure they get their pros because they won the game for us…..”
Nope.
Instead after the game it was:
“It was just (me) stepping up and getting it done,” Vick said in a postgame interview. “We had been through so much in the game – penalties and turnovers. But we got out of here 1-0 and that’s what’s important.”
And later….
“I watched it,” Vick said after Wednesday’s practice. “It doesn’t bother me. I spent 2 years in prison. You think I care what somebody says?”
“It happened because it happened,”
Good times all around.
@Vinnie – go to the link that Lionsden posted above…you’ll see that the only time Vick was I, I, I, or me, me, me…is when he was down on himself during the game…
Also you’ll find that Vick is able to pump fake defenders and throw TD’s passes…you’ll also see that the offense never gave up…you’ll also see how he worked through his progressions on the game winning TD…
I doubt that you’ll take a different perspective however, all Eagles fans should check it out….
I was just taking from the quotes you guys posted…
Anyway…as for tonight….that’ll be an interesting game. I think a little desperation creeping into GB (early) because they shaven’t really played a good/dominating game in over a season and their D looks porous.
Chicago has had this game on the calendar for a while….but its a bigger “must win” for GB at this point.
That being said, Cutler is an idiot for the whole “we invite press coverage….” business he said this week. I mean, when all is said and done, he’s still Jay Cutler.
I think it’ll be a high scoring affair if the weather’s good. GB in a FG game.
Pack can’t go 0–2. They will come out fired up tonight and win a close one. I think that they will also, in the process, realize that Benson is nothing special.
As far as the Birds game… hmm. The D will have to focus on Rice running and in screen passes, so the secondary is going to be tested. Not just DRC and Asmo though. Boykin against Boldin in the slot. Good test for the kid with physical Boldin. Pitta the TE had a big game last week too.
Offensively, we have all said it already. Run the damn ball. What is the point of having 4 talented backs if you don’t use them? This could put Vick in better situations, so that it cuts down on his decision making. Also get Celek into the offense early. Gonna be a tough one.
well he better stop following his receivers with his eyes– with ed reed and the boys that could be trouble. because there is no doubt he was guilty of that in the cleveland game and many times over the last year. in his defense tho the O line must not hold– the penalties are a major factor as well
@Bugsy – I agree with you on Benson…Matthews is still a beast but that defense isn’t what it used to be. Gore is a solid RB, but he let loose on them for 7 yards per carry…Forte may be able to really get loose against that D. I think it will be close game also…I’mma a take the Bears in a close one. 24-21
@Real- Think you are right. Since Jenkins started wearing Iggles green that line hasn’t been the same. What if the Cutler/Marshall thing was all an act and the Bears just slammed Forte/Bush down the Pack’s throat in the first quarter/half.
yea that is gonna be a very good test for Boykin…Boykin was solid in the slot this past weekend..Boykin is physical also, will be an interesting match up. Eagles gotta do good job against the run, can’t let Ravens get comfortable with PA…It’ll be important that the Birds make some plays to stop the uptempo offense the Ravens will be looking to run. 1st downs will be the key, keep them in some long situations.
I think the Birds need to move the pocket a bit more with Vick, he started out against the Browns 6-6 honestly he looked real good early on…Penalties need to be minimized, this had a major impact on the scoreboard in the 1st half in my opinion. Of course as you said, run the ball…I dont remember the last time I saw the Eagles start the game off with a run…
@Bugsy – and you know that the Bears will use their running game over and over , until you stop it…I def think depending on how the Packers can handle the Bears backfield, that will determine the outcome of tonight’s game…..I forgot that the Packers had Bush until you just mentioned it…that presents another dimension in the screen game that I think the Packers will have trouble containing…SF only attempted two passes against the Packers to the backfield, but one of the passes was a pretty successful one…went for 15 yards to the fullback…not sure if anything can be taken from that, but Packers didnt do anything to discourage the Bears from attempting it…But the same can also be said for the Bears, they gave up nearly 400 total yards to a Colts team…Rodgers is knows this and is probably licking his chops…
Good point about the screens. Forte in the open field is deadly.
For the Eagles… it is frustrating that they spend so much time gameplanning and then it looks like the same offense every week. I would like to really see them find a weakness and exploit it. I think that AR/MM/MV7 need to find a way to neutralize the bltizes that keep coming every week. They aren’t going to stop until they offense burns them for a big play or 2. Have to make them pay. Whether that is keeping an extra rb/te to block or quick slants, something has to be done.
Bugsy, “@Bugsy – and you know that the Bears will use their running game over and over , until you stop it…”
Wrong again.
Another myth from a bygone era. Much like Vick is a good QB.
The Bears have been a pass first team for several years now – even when they didn’t have the personnel.
They opened the first Q last weekend (against a terrible run D) with 11 passes and 5 runs. It was only late in the game, and with a big lead, that they began to “balance” their attack.
They still finished the game – a game they led pretty much the whole way with 41 called passes, 28 runs, and a reverse to hester.
I’m not saying that the Bears won’t come out and try to run the gball down GBs throat as you suggest, but I think we’ll see more early passes than runs….especially vs that GB D
@Vinnie — game plans vary from week to week…No one discussed what Chicago did verse the Colts, in fact the Colts were one of the worst teams against the pass last season..The point was that GB did not do a good job of stopping the run last week…So the odds the Chicago will run the ball more, with their work horse or screenplays are a bit high, don’t you think?
@ Vinnie..Why are you so hell bent on proving that Mike Vick isn’t a good QB
Is there a reason why ?
I mean we all know how you feel..but whats your angle ?
The more people see what’s really going on at the QB position…more pressure on the franchise….quicker that guy is outta here and we can get busy rooting for another championship instead of groaning after the patented 15 yrd behind the LOS strip/fumble or throw into 3x coverage that we can expect every game….or in this Sunday’s case, about 8x a game.
Besides, I’m a pretty big proponent of “everything you’ve been told is wrong”. Economics, politics, environmental issues. I’m a contrarian. (And that’s worked out very well for me btw) Esp from standard media. Ex – “Favre is fantastic” when we could all see he was terrible for a decade. The US isn’t in a recession (right now – started in June – will be worse than 2007). The US isn’t in a housing bubble (2006)…
There are a lot of blind peeps out there who eat what the talking heads say like pablum. “Mick Vick is a playmaker!!” and people gobble it up ignoring the ineptitude they see right in front of them.
I’m just breaking down myths. Opening eyes. And if you look closely…aside from the odd barb I make at the top of the threads (like my “god given talents” barb on this one)….I usually only respond to clarify the over-reaching – blanked proofless statements that people make on here all the time. “It was the oline”, “No WRs were getting separation!” “He was rusty” All made without one bit of evidence.
But more than anything….is so much fun watching the Vickpologists get all riled up….can’t you just read the venom dripping off their keyboards when they respond to post about Vick’s foibles?
How far they have to go to dredge up something good, (like: Vick has thrown for the 5th most yrds in the league this yea)…failing at that, and then untimately falling back to their tired old, “YouracistbigothaterI’llkickyourass!!” responses that usually close the thread.
So personal for them. Love to get ’em going.
I think Vinnie along with several people here are trying to help the people who put Wayyyy too much stock in Vick understand he isn’t an above average qb. I think we are bucking the ridiculous media hype surrounding this guy ad help people understand this isn’t the guy that is going to accomplish our goals ( the fans goals-super bowl) now if you wanna do that go ahead but it would be beneficial to understand what we have with Vick…
Anyone who pus Vick in a top 5 qb list is a total fuckin moron. It is what is, eagles have a shit load of talent and there is a lot to be excited about with this team but vick is not one of them. He has 0 upside at all, what you see is what you get. He is gonna help you win some games, rarely and probably never strap a team on his back an single handily win you a game on his back and he is single handily gonna lose you some too.
Newsflash…The Eagles have not had a QB that has, accomplished “our goals/fansgoals/superbowl” just in case you’ve been in a coma for the past 40 years…which means you should know more than anyone that it’s a bit more than QB play to win that ultimate goal.
52 years Real. Whatever. LOL!!!! We ain’t won, that’s what counts, & we ain’t winning again this year, either.
here’s a fascinating thing: The only two times Sunday that Vick looked comfortable, the only two times he got into a rhythm, were at the end of the two halves. Drove the Eagles 74 yards in just 32 seconds for a touchdown in the closing seconds of the second quarter, then put together that game-winning 16-play, 91-yard drive in the closing moments of the game.
Think about what happens at the end of a half. Things speed up. Everything moves faster. The plays come in quicker, the ball is spotted quicker, the huddle breaks quicker. There’s little time to think. Just call the play, drop back and fire. And that’s when Vick excelled Sunday.
That’s what Vick needs to get back to all the time. Call the play, break the huddle, take the snap, drop back and fire for 60 minutes instead of four or five minutes. Find that two-minute drill rhythm early and keep it.
Stop over-thinking everything
@AndrewP – good point! AR addressed that in his press conference “that’s not us, he said” in regards to speeding the offense up…so you’ll really only see that quick pace game at the end of halves or if the Eagles are behind and time is low…But Vick did start the game very comfortable…The Eagles moved the pocket for him a bit early on, and that’s what I’d like to see more of…Every time the Eagles tried to setup a screen play it failed without the defense really being the factor, if you recall Shady losing his footing a time or two…Want to see more screens on Sunday though
Thanks for the news flash captain obvious. To me that means there is a greater sense of urgency to get a qb that has above average talent and that’s a winner. Your insight is so remarkable real, thank you for all the wisdom and football knowledge you provide on a daily basis. I feel retarded I mean blessed reading it every day.
Ok vick apologists you can criticize bloggers for dogging (sorry bout that) Vick. Ray Didinger who is in the HOF and breaks down game film went thru the film and it’s official ‘a qb with this much experience that can’t read the blitz is unthunkable’. Also, ‘most rookies can read the blitz better’. Wow. He will do some remarkable things but he isn’t consistent enough to win it all. Andrew good idea for Vick… Don’t think lol
I havent commented in a very long time, but anyone that watches Pro-football has to know that Vick isnt a good pro QB. College, High School maybe, but you need to know how to read defenses and when to release the ball. Passing numbers go up and up as the league evolves into a pass friendly enviornment. If The Eagles dont get a QB suited to that, then kiss the SB hopes goodbye. As is with Vick as our QB we have no hope for a Lombardi Trophy. As Eagles fans that should be our ultimate goal, not any personal agendas.
Vick is a middle of the road QB. If you feel comfortable dedicating almost 20% of your salary cap to a middle of the road player by all means enjoy watching guys with talent walk out of here for more money elseware.
If Vick is back next year…I will be forced to not watch and hope for hockey season to begin.
That was an Amaro contract, if I ever saw 1. Worst contract, under this regime!
Vick’s Deal was a fleecing
OT D Bell’s is horrible too… (Bell making $9 Million which includes a $5 MIll Bonus and he can’t even beat a career back-up for a Starters Position..)
