Isn't it about time that somebody told the truth about Brett Favre. Yes he's one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time but for the last six or seven years he's been nothing but a "walking talking interception machine".
All the television announcers fawn all over him as he throws pick after pick. Do you remember that punt he threw at the end of the "4th and 26" game? It was so high in the air that Dawk and Lito were thinking about fair catching it like a punt. It was an overtime game and he just threw the Packers season away. Yet he faced no criticism at all because of his past accomplishments and the fact that he's headed to the Hall Of Fame.
Since he's already a legend and untouchable, the past Packers head coaches didn't have the power to discipline him, after he would throw careless interceptions. The guy hasn't been coached since Mike Holmgren left for Seattle. I don't know how good of a coach Packers head man Mike McCarthy will turn out to be, but I give him credit for having the guts to call Favre out. He has made it a point to demand that he cut down on the interceptions.
Don't get me wrong Favre has been a great quarterback for much of his career, but it's amazing how the same fans who clamor for team play and discipline, look the other way when Favre is given more power than his coach. These double standards are the reasons I question some of the criticism of today's players.
Donovan McNabb made a bold, yet sound statement yesterday at the Nova Care Complex. When asked what's the biggest difference between he and Brett Favre, Donovan said, " "I guess interceptions, some throws you just don't make. Some throws you do." It'll be interesting to see if Favre follows his coach's recommendations.
