Random Thoughts

There is a lot going on in the NFL this time of year.  Between the playoffs and all the coaching changes, let’s take a look at some of the things that are happening: -I thought I clicked on an old link on the internet today….

when I read that Pacman Jones had been accused of hitting a woman in a strip club.  Are you serious?  I can’t make this stuff up.  This guy is addicted to strip clubs.  But it’s not just fun to go to strip clubs, oh no.  It’s not enough to have some drinks and tip the girls.  It’s only fun if you end up punching one of them.  And this time, he allegedly hit an attorney.  So you didn’t just punch a some stranger.  You hit a woman.  Since being drafted in 2005, he has been arrested six times. Un. Be. Leivable.  The NFL has to just ban this guy; he’ll never get it.

-The word is that down in Dallas, owner Jerry Jones has told offensive coordinator Jason Garrett that he’ll match any money that the Ravens offer him to be their next head coach. If I’m Garrett (and I’m not), I’d take the money from Dallas knowing I’ll be the next head coach there. The Ravens are a mess on offense and aging on defense.  If Garrett doesn’t take the Ravens gig, look for the Eagles own John Harbaugh to take the job.  Have fun with that, John!

-I think the Cowboys could be in a world of hurt over the next few years and I’m not just piling on that franchise right now.  Bill Parcells has already taken their senior VP to be his general manager in Miami.  Offensive line coach Tony Sparano (I know, it does sound like that doesn’t it?) is widely rumored to be the next head coach for the Dolphins.  As I said a minute ago, the Ravens are pursuing Garrett. This is what happens when you get good.  They are going to have to replace these people or they are headed back to Dave Campo days.

-According to the Kansas City Star, the Chiefs will interview former NY Giants head coach Jim Fassel for the position of offensive coordinator.  Who wouldn’t love that job?
He would get to work with a cranky and barely effective Larry Johnson, an offensive line that is light years from the dominance it saw a few years ago, a quarterback who is a has-been (at best), and a quarterback is most likely is a never-will-be. Oh, and with the exception of last year’s first-round draft pick Dwayne Bowe, the wide receivers are awful. Have fun with that, Jim!

-Apparently, Chargers defensive lineman Igor Olshansky made a YouTube clip where he says the Patriots “are more worried than we are.”  Great idea.  Always a good idea to pop off at the mouth before a big game.

-Keep an eye on Arkansas running back Darren McFadden’s draft stock.  As of now, he’s a consensus top-three pick.  But, Profootballtalk.com brought an interesting case to light this past week. In 2006, before he became a big name, he was involved in a fight outside of a bar.  He dislocated his toe when he was kicking the guy so hard that his shoe came off.  His foot was introduced to the pavement at a high rate of speed.  Don’t forget he was cuffed and not charged outside of a piano bar recently for a fight there.  They love their college football in Arkansas, I wonder if he would have been charged if it had happened in a state where he wasn’t the local hero. You still want to spend that high pick on him?
