It makes sense that the Eagles have their eyes on an offensive tackle as their first pick in the draft. The problem they could run into is the fact that the guy or guys they have their eyes on could be off the board when they pick at 19, so they must have options.
It's one of the reasons that teams have to go into the draft with options. Thankfully for the Birds they will have options at the offensive tackle position. Jake Long of Michigan is the cream of the crop and there's no way he doesn't get picked in the first five selections. He could wind up being the first pick. With him out of the way, here are the three guys it will probably come down to.
Ryan Clady out of Boise State is a big, athletic offensive tackle who can run and pass block equally as well. The scouts believe he will be ready to start the moment he's picked. He is slated to go before the Birds pick. If he slides to the Birds he would be a no-brainer.
Next up is Chris Williams who is big and has the athleticism to play the left tackle spot in the NFL. He's got to get stronger. Chris had a great workout at the NFL combine and impressed quite a few of the scouts. His stock is rising and could mean that he'll be gone when the Birds pick.
The guy who could be their fall back selection is Jeff Otah out of Pittsburgh. He's comparable size-wise to the other two but not quite the athlete. I've heard the Birds like him and would be happy to get him. There's a good chance he could be the selection because those other tackles could be off the board.
