What Did Reid And McNabb Say?

It seems that both Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb are in denial about Donovan not being able to do all that he used to do in the offense.  How could both of them say he can do everything he used to do?  Are you kidding?

It's a fact that right now he can't run as fast or cut as quick.  He used to outrun linebackers and some defensive backs.  Now he's had defensive linemen running him down.  They both know the truth but just don't want to acknowledge it in public.

It's the "elephant in the living room".  McNabb will be back to himself physically next year, but he won't be able to do it this year.   Does this part of Andy Reid's news conference make sense?

On whether they game plan around QB Donovan McNabb because of his knee injury:

“We’re not really gameplanning around him. We feel like he can do everything that he’s been able to do in this offense. We’re not a big bootleg team, where he’s got to sprint out and do all those things. That’s not something we’ve done in the past a lot and we haven’t done it this year. But, the things we’ve asked him to do in the past he’s able to do now.”

Andy says he feels Donovan can do everything in the offense when we all know he can't.  Then Andy admits that he's not taking that into account when he game plans each week.  That doesn't make sense.

I understand Donovan being reluctant to always admit that he can't do what he used to do, but the key is that he's got to take that into account when he's deciding whether to throw the ball away or try to outrun somebody.

Also,  Donovan saying he'd never thought about going to Chicago and playing with the Bears, you've got to be kidding.  He grew up in Chicago where the fans don't seem to have the East Coast aggressiveness in criticizing their players and he's publicly said that he thinks Eagles fans are hard on him.  You know he's thought about going back home and playing for the Bears.  Can we keep it real?

As for Andy, you know he doesn't like Donovan hanging onto the ball and taking sacks rather than finding the open receiver or throwing the ball away.  Neither McNabb or Reid will publicly say they way they really feel.  That's fine as long as behind closed doors they're honest with each other about how they really feel.  Unfortunately I don't thnk they are honest behind closed doors.
