Around The NBA: Wade’s Rest Will Benefit Miami In The Long-Run

At the risk of stating what you already know, LeBron James has won a championship. Seemingly overnight, he has wrapped his third MVP season up with a bow and exercised most all of his “clutch gene” demons and gone from sports culture pariah to grounded family man who still has enough of a hairline to make going to the barbershop more than a social formality, at least according to Samsung commercials. Unfortunately, the Heat’s title run has done little to improve their public image as the most easily disliked team in the league and with the championship-sized monkey off of LeBron’s back and jokes about Chris Bosh’s appearance only stretching so for nowadays, popular opinion has set it’s sights on 2006 Finals MVP, Dwayne Wade, implying that at last, “Flash” has lost a step. However, further investigation shows that maybe such claims are just kind of a low blow.

Shockingly, banging the drum at the head of this movement, is Wade’s former T-Mobile spokespartner, the recently slimmed down mound of rebound, Charles Barkley, who insists that Wade must cultivate a post game a la Kobe Bryant in order age gracefully in the NBA. While it may be true that Wade no longer has the  raw athleticism and explosion to dominate games as he one did, it’s hard to determine how much of that can be attributed to his still ailing left knee and the wear and tear of the NBA grind and how much is the result of his secession of the Miami to Heat to LeBron. Last season, Wade made it clear that he was officially the Robin to LeBron’s Batman and as a result, the notion that the big three of South Beach were competing for control of the franchise disappeared and Wade, in his reduced role, raised the Larry O’Brien trophy for the second time in his storied career.

Alas, likely the only unselfish occurrence in Miami all of last season, (except the Marlins handing over their whole squad to Toronto, but that’s neither here nor there) which earned Wade such laud and respect has been the very same mindset that has called his skills into question this season. The Heat look more mortal than they have since their initial fumbles when Wade, Bosh, and James first aligned, with an inexplicable loss to the lowly Wizards (then without Nene) and perhaps the more telling and recent loss to the Rose-less Bulls. With all of that said, by the numbers, Wade is shooting a career best 51 percent from the field in just over 33 minutes per game. In addition, Wade is shooting a career best 32 percent from three. The most telling number of all, however, is one. The Heat are first in the East as we near the halfway point of the season.

Despite their expected lofty position at the top of the Eastern Conference, the Miami Heat definitely have issues to address before repeating as champs, not the least of which being improved and hungry teams in New York, Atlanta, Memphis, LA (Clippers), and familiar foes in OKC. The league has appeared to again place value in bruising a versatile front lines, an area where the Heat are incredibly deficient. Their own versatility  of placing LeBron in the post in the half court and pushing the ball through teams otherwise seems more negated than ever as other, equally athletic teams threaten to get over the hump. Without production from the 4 and 5, or at the very least the ability to stop other teams’ 4’s and 5’s. The Heat’s chances to repeat are very much in doubt.

As for Wade, he’ll likely ride his newly regimented minutes like the passenger seat of the Batmobile with LeBron at the wheel and assuming his health holds up, will have plenty of pop come April and, perhaps, June. If the Heat are ill fit to take on an NBA that’s improved around them, odds are it won’t be Wade’s fault. Until that time, Dwayne Wade will be waiting in shadows waiting for his number to be called. I’m no Heat fan by any stretch, but I’d hate to be the guy to bet against him.

Are the 76ers still playing.. I haven’t seen any articles or Posting’s about them lately.. What happened to “JH’s” claim that they were a Top #4 Team in the Eastern Conference and were ready to step up in 2013 and compete with the
Big Boys.. It’s been awful quiet on the 76ers Front these Days.. I expect Doug Collins to be Fired after this Season…
I believe back in September/October, I stated about a 44-46 Win Season and a 7th/8th Seed at best, now fast foward a couple of months and they will be lucky to get to 40 Wins and are presently 8 games under .500 (17-25)
This Team is worse than last years team in terms of overall Talent, Heart and Coaching… Doug needs to go… (as do 8-9 Players off the Roster) .

No they don’t you gotta be kidding me. And what does Jrue do against them? This fanbase kills me, you look for anything to root against even your own guys. Jrue avgs 19pts and 9as. Those are some of the best among pgs. Imo hes #2 on my list of pgs with Chris Paul the obvious #1 choice. Jrue is an AllStar there is no denying that or his ability.

Jrue is a horrible defensive player due to his lack of speed — he struggles to pass the ball to big men off pick and roll which translates to turnovers ( Jrue Holliday leads the Eastern conference( & NBA) in turnovers(4.0 turnovers a game) and is 39th in the east in assist to turnover ratio–(69th in NBA)) why does he lead the league in turnovers because he is slower than his defender

reason # 1 to why Sixers are 8 games under .500 — they are Slow

paulman

#2) They cant Rebound very well
#3) No consistent inside scoring presence and rely on Jump Shoot
#4) and having no inside game means less Free-Throw Shots to get easy, cheap points while the Clock is stopped..

Theses are all things and concerns that I and other Posters had going into the Season and have still not seen adressed halfway thru the Season..

Jrue’s turnovers have gone down significantly from the start of the season to now. This is his first year as the starter at PG from the start of the season. This team has been coping with alot of injuries and there bench is struggling. Hes 22 years old for goodness sake. Not to disrespect you but you sound very foolish right now.. Then you say hes slow and not a good defender? Do you hear yourself right now? You must not watch the games..Hes one of the best on ball defenders in the entire league. Give me a break man. Again trying to find something to complain about, dude just got named to his first Allstar game, the youngest in Sixers history. What your saying is garbage

Im hearing the Celtics may be considering trading Paul Pierce before the February 21st trade Deadline in light of the Rondo injury and the 15mil hes owed next season. The Sixers may try to jump in on that. They could use another scorer. If the Sixers got Paul Pierce and Bynum returns as planned in a few weeks, this team would be instant contenders

-With Rajon Rondo being out for the year, it leaves Jrue Holiday and Kyrie Irving as the remaining PGs on the Eastern Allstar team. Who will start?

My Thoughts. Guys and Gals, Andrew Bynum could make his long awaited debut during this current 8 game home stand. WoW! I hate the NBA , and gave stated that many times.. It doesn’t take a rocket scientists JH, to know the 76ers are a bottom half Team in the Eastern Conference and the entire NBA, would a heatlthy Bynum help,
Sure he would, but guess what, he’s not healthy and the long-term prognosis that he will ever be is not very good.. The 76ers got stuck with damaged goods again (like Jeff Ruland 25 years back and even Elton Brand missed many games when the 76ers first signed him
The 76er Franchise is a joke and they are a worst overall team than last years Team. Guard Jrue Holiday is the only starting Caliber NBA player on this Roster, the remaining 11-12 players would simply be bench/rotational players with the Top 10-12 Teams in the NBA
The real Fraud in Philly is your Boy Bynum
76ers would have better off keeping and developing Center Vucevic who is playing pretty well for Orlando and has a high ceiling and will end up getting 15-16 Pts and 8-10 Rebounds a night for the next 6-8-10 Years while Bynum is collecting his Injury Insurance $$..

The NBA sucks. Not only has David Stern ruined the NBA with expansion he also has allowed these college players to come into the NBA early and it has ruined the college game. (I know lawyers are involved but somehow, some way I wish the NBA could make these kids stay longer). Saying all that only 3-4 teams have a realistic chance of winning a title each year and the other 28 teams are just going through the motion. Its the only sport where there really is no chance of “getting hot” and pulling off upsets. The best team usually wins which is anti-climatic.

Vuc is playing on a team with low expectations and are one of the worst teams in the league. The Sixers are a different franchise with higher aspirations and expectations. You trade a Vuc for a Bynum who wouldnt?except you who always goes for the youth movement whether its the eagles flyers phillies and sixers. In your words “this team needs to be rebuilt from top to bottom”…Your the joke…If you hate the NBA why comment on it? You sound ridiculous. The only one who follows the NBA that had expectations for the 76ers Team was you JH.. This Team is on the same par as Orlando..
Where did I say Vucevic had teh same game as a heatlhy Byrnum
What I said, is that Vucevick will give you close to a double-double every evening and has a lot of upside at his young age of only 22.. Meanwhile, your boy “Bumyun” has failed to lace it up for a SIngle Game and won’t be in Philly after this Season as he will bolt to the Knicks/Nets which is where he wants to play.. I bet Bumyun is out of the NBA in 2-3 Years time, while Vucevic has a nice 8-10 Year Career ahead of him…

You said trading Vuc was a bad idea and that Bynum was a bust then you mentioned Vuc stats yes thats comparing the two. You doing that is silly. Yes Vuc is playing well in his second yr. Btw Bynum is just 3 yrs older than Vuc genius. Hes only 25yrs old Vuc 22.. Bynum is a NBA Champion. Vuc will never be one unless he joins a contending team. Vuc is a good role player but will never be the main option like a BYNUM who avg 18pts 12reb last yr. A healthy BYNUM is the best center in the league. And being that he has sat out half the season to heal and rest up, LookOut! He is a man on a mission with alot to prove.

I agree Dag,
Kids leaving early gas damaged the College Game big time
I wish they would go back to where kids had to complete at least
2 Seasons or be age 21 before entering the NBA Draft
It would help the Players in the long run and the NBA and also the Colleges that recruit thesec kids, these 1 and done Seasons by kids is stupid and now some of smarter Coaches like Coach K are beginning to stay away from these types in offer to build chemistry and better teamwork on their Teams

His own Laker teammates said the guy doesn’t give a damn. Then on top of that, Bynam actually had the audacity to call out Kobe, saying crap like Kobe stunted his growth. WHat a loser this guy is.
