Notes From The Phillies’ 7-3 Win Over Miami

howardmarlinsThe Philadelphia Phillies won the second game of their series against Miami on Tuesday night, taking down the Marlins 7-3. Their record improves to 22-24.

  • Tyler Cloyd came out and pitched a fine game in his second start of the season. Cloyd made it through seven innings, allowing just two runs on eight hits.
  • After failing to support Cole Hamels, the team’s offense exploded for seven runs on 15 hits. Ryan Howard returned to the lineup and led the charge by going 3-5 and driving in three runs.
  • Delmon Young had his best game in several weeks, going 2-4 and driving in two. Young hit his second home run of the year.
  • For the second time in three games, Ben Revere had a three-hit game. The centerfielder hit his third double of the season, and came around to score three times.
  • Domonic Brown went 1-5 and knocked in two.
  • Chase Utley was scratched from the game with pain in his side, and is considered day-to-day. Freddy Galvis got the start in his place.
  • Antonio Bastardo threw a scoreless eighth inning.
  • B.J. Rosenberg allowed a run on two hits in the ninth inning.

Final Thoughts

As bad as Monday’s game was, Tuesday’s win was quite the opposite. Last night’s effort was filled with encouraging signs.

Ryan Howard was able to return to the lineup, and delivered a solid performance driving in nearly half of the team’s runs.

Ben Revere had another strong showing, and it looks as though he may have earned the centerfield job back from John Mayberry for the time being.

Even Tyler Cloyd did a great job once again to keep the team in the game.

The Phils will look to finish off the series by taking two out of three with Cliff Lee on the hill Wednesday night.

weird article.

you start with “The Philadelphia Phillies won the second game of their series against Miami on Tuesday night, taking down the Marlins 7-3.”

But in reality they won their first game of this series last night after getting embarrassed in game 1.

you end with “The Phils will look to c”

In my earlier post I criticized your first sentence but I read it wrong. You wrote they won the second game not their second game, I am embarrassed myself,

Chase Utley (rib cage) will undergo an MRI on Thursday.
Utley was scratched from Tuesday’s lineup after he felt pain and a burning sensation in his right rib cage after taking a swing during batting practice. Rib cage and oblique injuries tend to linger, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him land on the disabled list at this point. Get a backup plan in place in fantasy leagues.

I know Revere has not made a mark in Philly but I would take him over the gas can we traded for him – worley.

Maybe Worley can get his ERA under 7.00 in AAA. Another one of the “awesome prospects” I keep hearing we traded away.
