Jakes Rips Joe DeCarlo A New One

Jake, G – I love the site, and have posted frequently.  I appreciate you giving the fans an outlet for us to speak our minds. But, I have to ask you, what in the world would make you want to post an article by someone who starts his rant….

with a comparison of the people of this city to someone who abuses they're family?  Joe DeCarlo wrote "Philly is like the Dad or Husband who verbally abuses his wife and kids because he doesn't feel good about himself. He's got a lousy job and takes it out on them."  How could this even remotely be considered constructive criticism?

I don't know who Joe is, but he seems to have several insecurities that he is reflecting back on the city itself, and it doesn't just stop with the one comment.  He goes on to say "Philly doesn't really like itself because you always see the media types trying to explain how great we are.  We have to keep telling ourselves that we like our city, so we can start feeling that way.  We don't like our selves or our city, so we take it out on our sports teams."  Maybe this tool doesn't like himself, and thats fine, because quite frankly I don't like him much right now either.  But if Joe thinks that the "media types" are telling us we are great because the media is concerned about our inferiority complex, nothing could be further from the truth.  The media has a collective interest in making this city's fans interested in its sports teams, regardless of what the record might be – not to make us feel better – but because ITS WHAT PAYS THE BILLS.  The media makes a living off of creating an interest in and controversy over its collective sports teams.

But in addition to Joe's issues with a media he doesn't even remotely begin to understand, Joe also seems to feel that we don't like ourselves or our city all that much.  Perhaps its Joe himself that doesn't see the value in one of the most historic cities in this country.  Perhaps Joe has never opened a book to discover that Philadelphia was the first capital of this great nation, and it was right here in Philadelphia that the Declaration of Independence was signed.  I'm sure Joe wouldn't appreciate all of that, so perhaps Joe should try exploring the city to see what it offers today.  Some of the best restaurants in the country are here, as well as some of the greatest historic landmarks.  But if thats not enough, you have Valley Forge, Peddlers Village, The Jersey Shore, Lancaster, the mountains, AND PLENTY MORE all within just an hour or so away.

Joe goes on to say "We can't be New York, or Washington D.C., or Los Angeles, or San Francisco, so we eat our own."  Maybe Joe would like to move to San Fran or LA – but I have NEVER heard anyone from Philadelphia mention any kind of comparison to either of those cities.  But maybe I need to speak slowly for Joe so he understands that Philadelphia is always going to have a rivalry with New York, Washington and Dallas….probably because THEY ARE IN OUR DIVISION."  I don't know if thats too complicated for Joe to comprehend, but you see Joe, how football works is, when other teams are in your division, that ultimately creates rivalries.  Its pretty basic stuff I know, but you jost don't seem to get it.

I will give you this though – your last few paragraphs ACTUALLY DISCUSSED FOOTBALL rather than doing your best to insult anyone who read your diatribe.  And I do agree that on offense, Dallas does outmatch the Birds this year by comparison.  But again, why did you need to insult this city and its fans for 3 paragraphs before you even decided to bring up the Dallas game?

If you have such an issue with the city and its fans – then move somewhere else.  There is good and bad in every place you go, and if you can't see all the good this city has to offer, then quite frankly noone needs or wants you here.
