The Philadelphia Phillies lost their second straight game on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Colorado Rockies 5-2. Their record drops to 33-37.
- Cole Hamels was once again good, not great on the mound. He lasted seven innings this time around, but still gave up three runs on six hits. He suffered his 10th loss of the season.
- Stop me if you’ve heard this before: the offense didn’t show up to help Hamels out either. The lineup didn’t score any runs until the ninth inning, and managed just six hits on the day.
- Justin De Fratus took over for Hamels in the eighth inning, but couldn’t record an out, giving up two runs on two hits and a walk. De Fratus had pitched in the previous two games, it probably wasn’t a good idea to go back to the rookie for a third game in a row.
- Antonio Bastardo relieved De Fratus and got through the rest of the eighth inning.
- Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard drove in the team’s only runs.
- Kevin Frandsen got the start at second base and went 1-4.
- John Mayberry got another start in right and went 0-3.
- Domonic Brown had another tough game at the plate, going 1-4. His average has dipped to .276.
Final Thoughts
The Phillies finished up their 10-game road trip with a 3-7 record.
Fortunately, they didn’t lose a lot of ground on the Braves and Nationals, as both teams have been going through their own struggles. However, the team will now return home and face off against the Nationals in a critical series for two teams close to each other in the standings.
The Phillies need to begin to make a stand in order to gain ground, and a successful series against Washington would be a good start.

This article is wayyyyyyyy too lenient on how the game went. The phils didn’t score a run until the 9th inning! They stood no chance from the moment the game started. I think the veterans should be embarrassed by the lack of effort they show on the field and this is also why Cliff Lee is disgruntled. Why would he want to stay around on a team where the veterans are satisfied with losing? because they still get paid!!! Bunch of has-beens and I think at this point a change needs to be made. Say all you want about the team being only 4 games below .500. They have been above .500 once this season thanks to an incredible month led by Dom Brown. Now that Brown is playing less spectacular you get a view of what this team is all about. Unethusiastic, over-hyped, over-paid, has-beens.
Bingo!
