The Birds were back at this afternoon, starting over where they had stopped during the previous mini camp. Everybody was there except, Brian Dawkins who's in Jacksonville with his wife and new born twins. L.J. Smith was missing also because he's still recovering from his recent sports hernia surgery.
William Thomas is still recovering from his knee surgery so he missed the workout as well. Of course Donovan McNabb did nothing but stand around and watch as A.J. Feeley and Kelly Holcomb took most of the reps from rookie Kevin Kolb. Andy said he think A.J. looks just as relaxed and smooth is running the offense as he was years ago.
The Eagles offense was getting in a lot of nickel work against the defense..
Kevin Curtis gave a look at his speed and he can run. Kevin beat a number of the corners with explosive bursts off the line.I wonder about him beating bigger cornerbacks like Wili James who will come up and beat and him up at the line of scrimmage. On one play James jammed Curtis and he was late getting open on the slant route and dropped the pass. If the pads were on he would have been killed. Curtis seemed confident aftewards but we'll see.
Reggie Brown looks faster. He ran some nice routes on Lito Sheppard and even beat Lito deep on one occassion. Curtis has got to come up strong for the Birds.
Sheldon Brown had a strong performance today by getting his hands on numerous passes. Brown stepped in front of an Eagles receiver and picked off a Kevin Kolb pass late in the workout and returned it for six.
Bethel Johnson won't practice at all until training camp. He's still out because of the stress fracture in his leg. He's much bigger than little Jeremy Bloom but Bloom has got to be ahead of him because "Johnson hasn't busted a grape since he's been an Eagle". Andy said he knows the offense fairly well because he was in Minnesota with Eagles former offensive coordinator Brad Childress, a year ago.
At tight end, L.J. Smith was missing because of his sports hernia surgery. Andy said he thinks he'll be back for the training camp. Matt Schobel strained his hamstring during the workout and that gave the young tight ends more work. Brent Celek had a great day running his routes and catching the football.
At linebacker, Andy said he wants to get steady solid play. He said he felt Jeremiah Trotter looked good and a bit lighter.
I don't buy all this nonsense about Brodrick Bunkley being a new man going into his second year. I think the kid is going to be fine but that doesn't excuse me from blaming the Birds coaching staff for not playing him last year.
